I might run for California governor as a Repub.
Seriously. It only takes 65 nominating signatures and $3500 to get on the recall ballot. I might be able to raise the cash with the help of some buddies. Main benefit -- it's a good conversation starter, and appeals to my warped sense of humor. But also, it might also help split the Repub. vote among the clueless. There is no runoff in a recall, so anything that helps split Repub. votes automatically helps the Dem. candidate.

Am I being hopelessly immature? Am I subverting the process? Am I wasting 3500 perfectly good dollars? Probably. But it still amuses me. Anyone got an argument why this would be a bad thing for Dems?

1. The only downside is...
I think you would have to register as a Republican. If you can force yourself to do such an act, then go for it. When else will you get the chance to exploit a dirty trick style campaign?

Good luck!

3. You should consider the possible downside that
you might win! What would you do, then?

You could play the "maverick outsider" card. You could say outrageous but strikingly true things, that serious candidates can't touch with a ten-foot pole! It could be a lot of fun!

If you don't mind blowing the $3500, I'd say go for it. The money could actually be an investment: you write a book about your campaign experiences, & recoup 10 times the outlay. Title: "My Life on the Campaign Trail - An Ordinary American's Inside Look at Politics." Etc.

6. Why not?
The money is bit high, but...

you get to always introduce yourself as a former candidate.

9. Bring it on
You'll be a chick magnet. Well, they'd be repuggly, but, you would be a chick magnet. Great life experience thing. Probably get to go to a lot of horrid Republican functions, pancake breakfasts, townhall meetings, hear some hair-raising stuff.
