Cheney, Libby & Miller - all in Jackson Hole, August 2003
Edited on Mon Oct-17-05 11:59 AM by dave29
http://www.jhzone.com/viewinfo.cfm?ObjectID=2A504341-A71F-4432-88F23D980E7AD19A (this is the current page... to see the original do a google search for "cheney" "august 2003" "jackson hole")

The incident marks the second time in two years Blackhawks have created a stir in Jackson Hole. Helicopters transporting Cheney around the region on vacation in August 2003 landed on the Puzzleface Ranch in an area protected by a conservation easement, drawing criticism from some residents. The area is home to to nesting osprey and other waterfowl, including trumpeter swans.

In answer, I told the grand jury about my last encounter with Mr. Libby. It came in August 2003, shortly after I attended a conference on national security issues held in Aspen, Colo. After the conference, I traveled to Jackson Hole, Wyo. At a rodeo one afternoon, a man in jeans, a cowboy hat and sunglasses approached me. He asked me how the Aspen conference had gone. I had no idea who he was.
"Judy," he said. "It's Scooter Libby." "

Amazing coinkidink

7. That quote has been haunting my mind since it was first reported.
It's very frightening on many levels. I wonder if we really know the exact meaning or warning. So much has been speculated about the meaning and yet the letter was released publicly. Is it a warning or hint to a broader audience, meaning the rest of America. If so what does it mean?

"Out West, where you vacation, the aspens will already be turning. They turn in clusters, because their roots connect them."

The most obvious is: you're with us, you're part of us. You know what the story should be.

Consistent with Libby's lawyer demanding to know how she would testify.

40. The latest speculation on the ASPENS thing
...is that, since Judy was living with/screwing Les Aspin back when he was Clinton's much-assailed SECDEF, and he died suddenly of a stroke (he had heart disease, mind you) that the secret line meant "You'll end up like Les."

I would think Les would be turning, alright--in his GRAVE at the bullshit that has gone on in this nation since the election was stolen.

But the most amusing thing I have read about the aspens controversy had nothing to do with them:

Aspens are very beautiful this time of year - Do not know if it is code.

However, did you hear of the coded letter Shrub received from Osama? It reads"

370HSSV-0773H

Shrub had Condi read it - She couldn't figure it out, neither could the FBI nor the CIA.
However, MI-6 has looked at it and said it was upside down.

18. Aspen, CO & Jackson Hole, WY are 600 miles apart!
She's implying that she was in Aspen for a conference & just decided to swing by Jackson Hole, WY to catch a rodeo. According to Mapquest, it's an ELEVEN HOUR drive from Aspen to Jackson Hole. Must have been a heck of a rodeo. Jackson Hole is the hometown of the Cheney's, who were undoubtably vacationing there w/Libby. This probably occured about August 13. Dick Cheney was the headliner for a big Republican fundraiser in Jackson Hole, WY on that date.
http://www.whitehouseforsale.org/dashforcash/page.cfm?pageid=49#jack08132003.

Why was Miller so eager to attend a Republican fundraiser that she traveled 11 hours to do it? According to her own testimony, (if you believe her) she didn't expect to meet Libby. So who was she meeting? Cheney? Finally, the conference she was attending was with the "Aspen Strategy Group" to discuss a grand strategy for the Middle East. If Libby wasn't there, how would he know that she was there? Why would that conference be the first thing he asked her about? All these hurried meetings occured shortly before the CIA requested a Justice Dept. investigation of the leak in Sept. Is this what they were trying to forestall? Or was Miller reporting back some of the topics discussed at the conference to Cheney? Who knows - but you don't travel that far w/o a pretty good reason.

27. Wanna know a weird coincidence? I was in Jackson Hole at that time! My
husband's best friend got married, we went there for the wedding and then a week of vacation with the kids....We were at a "dude ranch" outside of Jackson Hole right near this fundraiser at the time and we saw these Blackhawks flying...I remember thinking it was creepy and we knew that Cheney's "place" was nearby too....I didn't know he was in town and my husband and I were thinking that it is creepy that Darth Vader had to be in town traveling around in the Blackhawks....Anybody who knows how laid back it is in Jackson Hole and the surrounding areas, would know what I'm talking about....Dressing up there is wearing something other than blue jeans....most people travel in pick up trucks...not Blackhawks...

And to think ole' Judith was there too....wow.....I feel like I was right near the bad guys conspiring on their evil plans.....

Crossing the Atlantic
A Report from the Aspen Atlantic Group 2003 Workshops

Madeleine K. Albright and Kurt M. Campbell, Editors

April 2004

The Aspen Institute

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Abstract

In two workshops, June 6–8 and July 31–August 2, 2003, the Aspen Atlantic Group and its guests examined avenues for renewed transatlantic cooperation in light of contemporary and cumulative challenges to the relationship. Having conducted a frank and in–depth diagnosis of core differences and commonalities in the first workshop, the second workshop extended its scope to include sessions on specific areas of collaboration such as homeland security and humanitarian intervention.

The workshops’ participants discussed their recommendations for steps necessary to reenergize and, in some cases, reengineer the transatlantic relationship. In an atmosphere of nonpartisan dialogue, they drew on their extensive experience in government to examine policy tools, institutional architecture, common paths, and areas of enduring difference. The conversation benefited from a provoking and insightful set of papers and presentations, many of which are published in the subsequent sections of this report.

30. There were two meetings
Edited on Mon Oct-17-05 02:47 PM by Marie26
Aspen Atlantic Group looks like a subpart of the Aspen Strategy Group that focuses mostly on Europe. The Aspen Atlantic Group met from July 31 - Aug 2 with a conference on "Crossing the Atlantic." The next week, the Aspen Strategy Group met from Aug. 2 - Aug. 7 to hold a conference on a "Grand Strategy for the Middle East." http://www.ciaonet.org/wps/cak02/. Judith Miller apparantly attended both conferences & wrote a paper for the Aspen Strategy Group meeting called "Countering WMD proliferation after Iraq". The conference report can be downloaded at their website: http://www.aspeninstitute.org/site/c.huLWJeMRKpH/b.612047/k.1222/Aspen_Strategy_Group.htm. So, it looks like Judy was hanging around Aspen, Co. from July 31 - Aug. 7, then traveled to the fundraiser in Jackson Hole on Aug 13. In what is probably a coincidence, Bush gave another fundraiser in Denver, CO. on August 12. What I'm wondering is if she traveled up to Cheney's ranch together with other Aspen conference participants. After all, Aspens turn in clusters ...

may also be significant. Remember when Miller said "the Government's too powerful--you don't know," or words to that effect? I think they threatened her. I think she was a hell of a lot more scared of Cheney and Libby than of Fitz, her bosses at the Times, or anyone else.

Means nothing of course--but Ospreys seem to follow *the Dick*

There was also something else about an Osprey relating to a military helicopter (I think?)that Cheney was pushing

I recall wondering if the Enron shell company was somehow related to Cheney when the Enron dirt was being combed over years ago.

Didn't Cheney also get caught shooting an Osprey out of season or something?

41. Okay. I think things just got more interesting. Aspens indeed!
Do you think that it's at all possible that the battle between Cheney and the CIA is more than just a pissing match? Do you think that there is some sort of counter-CIA operation that Cheney is spear-heading? You know where he and his operatives (i.e. libby, miller, rove) are trying to out CIA the CIA?

I mean.. the WIERD letter about the Apens NOW makes total sense. Something is darker and scarier and deeper than I think we've imagined.

I've been on DU since nearly the beginning, years ago. People know I am not a tinfoil type. I'm just connecting some hypothetical dots.

42. Weirder & weirder
Don't forget what came right before Libby's mention of "aspens turning":

Letter - "You will have stories to write; Iraqi elections & suicide bombers, biological threats and the Iranian nuclear program."
Conference - The topic of the Aspen conference was a "Grand Strategy for the Middle East." Judith Miller presented specifically on...biological threats & nuclear weapons - then raced straight to Cheney's ranch.

The first thing Libby asked about was the conference. Why? The letter shows that Libby & Miller both made a connection between the Aspen conference & future stories. Why? Were they planning those future stories?
