Wife of ... Daniel Horowitz Found Dead in Couple's Home
http://ap.tbo.com/ap/breaking/MGB9G811VEE.html

LAFAYETTE, Calif. (AP) - The wife of prominent defense attorney and TV legal analyst Daniel Horowitz was found slain in the couple's San Francisco area home, police said.

Horowitz called 911 Saturday evening to report that the body of his wife, 52-year-old Pamela Vitale, was in the entryway of their home in an upscale neighborhood, police said.

...

Authorities would not release details of how the victim died, but said it was a homicide. They had no suspects.

Horowitz is legendary as one of the nation's most well known federal criminal defense lawyers and death penalty expert.

His record of acquittals and major case dismissals for 2004 alone includes an international smuggling case, an international money laundering case and a California extortion case.

5. From the link:
"Daniel Horowitz is a national Legal Commentator seen on the Abrams Report, Court TV and CNN with Nancy Grace, Fox News and as a regular guest with Rita Cosby."

I have the feeling we might be hearing a bit more about this case in the coming weeks. Just a hunch.

like RUsh - no one still talks about his drug habit/problems in the national media.

like ORielly - hear much about his sexual harrassment suit/settlement in the national media, lately?

10. Very interesting and odd.
His current high profile case involves a woman named Susan Polk who killed her husband in their home in Orinda. For those unfamiliar with this area, Lafayette and Orinda are adjacent wealthy suburbs east of the Oakland/Berkeley hills. The picture of Horowitz on his web site looks like it may have been taken in his own backyard because the backdrop is Mt. Diablo, the landmark for all the towns in this part of the East Bay.

I guess the Vitale murder will be this year's sensational murder case in Lamorinda.

13. This sounds like the murder case here in Durham
Edited on Sun Oct-16-05 10:16 AM by supernova
The couple, husband was a novelist, wife was an exec at Northern Telecom, lived in the old money section of Durham.

Reportedly she was found dead at the bottom of the stairs. One problem, there was too much blood on her to be from just a fall down the stairs.

He was found guilty of killing her by bludgeoning.

Eerie side fact: 20 years ago he was living in Germany and married to someone else. She too was found dead at the bottom of the stairs, but they cleared him of those charges.

edit: It's the Michael Peterson trial

when it was tried here in Durham--it was shown on CourtTV (as you probably know already).

That was an interesting trial.

31. Seems to be a common solution for spouse killers...there was a local
case that sounds almost identical - he was a college professor, and originally presumed innocent, but was later arrested and charged with killing her. I'm presuming that they do this to obscure evidence of the original trauma.

12. No suspects?
Usually the first suspect is the spouse or significant other of the deceased.

"Horowitz is a regular television legal commentator who appears frequently on CNN, MSNBC and Fox News and was a frequent commentator during the Laci Peterson murder trial.

Horowitz is currently defending Susan Polk, accused of murder in the 2002 stabbing death of her husband in the poolhouse of their Orinda home. The trial had been scheduled to continue next week."

Interesting.

or she was coming back in from somewhere. I don't get the feeling that Horowitz had anything to do with it.

"We're talking to several individuals," Lee said. "Nobody's in custody right now."

A call to the Horowitz' home from The Associated Press went unanswered late Saturday.

"I can't talk," Horowitz told the San Francisco Chronicle when reached on his cell phone Saturday. "I can't. It's beyond words."
