1. I've never had any kind of flu shot.
Why bother? I rarely get sick.

10. Same here, I think. Maybe got another flu shot somewhere along
the line, but the only one I clearly recall was the Swine Flu shot in the 70s, which they lined us up in the college cafeteria or auditorium for and gave with a needle-free multidose injector gun thingie.

2. I didn't have a choice.
I was in the Army and they literally dragged me to get the shot that I didn't want or need.

18. Same here! I was in Basic Training and we were forced to get the shot.

And it was the day before the physical training test too. A few recruits got sick. I didn't. But I'm sure a mess now. AHHH!! It was that dang swine-flu shot! I knew it. Or the microwave radiation I was exposed to later. Eh, who knows.

:silly:

4. I think I got flu shot once when it was available. However,
this is scaring a lot of people because of the hype.

5. First and Last Flu Shot I Ever Had
I had one. I (everyone) was pressured by my employer to get it. They were giving them out at work. My arm hurt terribly for a week, then I had pain there off and on for at least a year. I never got another one because of this, and I never got the flu. Others at work had the same type of pain associated with this shot.

16. Same here. I got sick as a dog after the Swine Flu shot and have not
had a shot or the flu since then.

I read recently that 86 people died as a result of getting the Swine Flu shot!

No thanks.

6. I got ONE flu shot in my life, more than 20 years ago.
Got the damn flu that year too! Havent gotten one since, and haen't gotten the flu either!

I don't remember a specific one for swine flu, but I don't pay much attention to all this BS either.

If you work with the public, or hin health care, i guess it's a good idea to get the shot. If your health is already compromised by another illness, it's a good idea too.

Other than that, wash your hands often.
Keep them out of your nose and mouth.
Stay away from people who come to work sick!

You should be just fine!

8. Those people who come to work sick really piss me off!
Especially in corporations where sick pay is available. They think they are making points with management. Well, management should send them home. They only put everyone else at risk.

You are spot on about keeping your hands away from your nose & mouth. And wash your hands before you eat! And if you go to a deli or some place like that where the person who handles your food also handles the money, cancel your order & don't eat there. And tell them why!

11. Excellent point about handling the money and then handling food!
I know about the money, of course, but this is definitely a weak spot in infection control that would be important to avoid in the event of a pandemic (they would probably make it illegal).

7. I never had the shot and never had the flu. but I hear the swine flu shots
in the seventies were so dangerous and killed more people than expected that it was considered a failure and they stopped giving it out. Personally I think all these flus are ways to keep us all in line. they are dangerous to old people and people who have other problems, but not dangerous to most of us. And isn't the flu shots still preserved with mercury?? I don't want a mercury shot every years, especially if I have other problems.:puke:

12. "to keep us in line"? Really? Like the pandemic in 1918 did?
Yeah, that was a political plot too.

"mercury shot" ???

Oy.

13. IIRC the CDC website says yes, there is thimerosal in the injectable
flu shot (not the intranasal). The amounts are not enough to harm an adult because we weigh so much, but for children this concerns some people.

If you want to avoid the mercury issue, get the intranasal flu vaccine. This is a nifty new thing which targets the immunity right at the point of entry. We used a feline respiratory vaccine a few years ago that was given intranasally, and I loved the QUICK protection it gave the kittens, but it was difficult to administer (kittens HATED IT), and there was admittedly some sneezing for a few days in many of them that bothered owners (but it was not the actual disease, just an indication of local immune response). They say, IIRC, that the human intranasal flu vaccine can also do this, but fear of mild sneezing should not be a reason to avoid it.

9. I refused the shot
but I got the flu. I was a newly graduated RN working in a neuro unit at the hospital and my boyfriend at the time found me unconscious with a fever of 105 in my house and had to carry me out to the doctor....It was a bad flu.

14. Aren't hospitals more strict about employees getting flu shots these
days, to avoid unnecessary risk to the patients?

It would make sense.

My sister is a pharmacotherapeutics pharmacist in a big hospital and I don't even know, lol, if she is required to get flu shots every year, but it sure wouldn't surprise me.

15. So much for the "it's only dangerous for children and the elderly" myth.
I think I'll listen to the medical professionals instead of the tabloids.
