DU ladies!!! See yourselves through the eyes of a Fundie...if you dare>>
I say, God has given man one position and woman another position and this difference in their position should be shown by men having short hair and women long hair. "Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonoureth his head. But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven" (1 Cor. 11:4,5). And verse 6 continues: "For if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it be a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered."

Man is made in the image of God. God is a masculine God. The masculine pronoun is used of God everywhere in the Bible. That foolish and unscriptural title given by a woman preacher, Mrs. Mary Baker Eddy, "Our Father-Mother God," dishonors God. God is not effeminate. God is not feminine, but masculine. And man is made in the image of God. On the other hand, a woman is not made so much in the image of God, but in the image and as a mate to man. So the Scripture says: "For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man."

Blessed is the woman that remembers this; her glory is in being a help to a man, and in submission to her husband or her father.

exactly. Never let your daughters start believing this shit. (Or your sons either for that matter.)

It was a somewhat exagerated technique, but I always tried to approach something with the attitude "Well, if (just) a BOY can do it, I certainly can do it as well as or even better." Many times I was right, and learned and did what I wanted to regardless of being "just" a girl.

ETA: I left the Christian church my parents (mostly mom) made me go to as a kid. I hated confirmation class, and memorized the stuff they gave us and spit it back just to be able to get out of the class. I didn't really believe it. Now I'm a kind of a "Samhain/Solstice Pagan."

14. In Hebrew the word used to talk about the Holy Spirit...
was FEMININE! Ha ha ha, take that, fundies. Some commentaries and Bible scholars are now correctly referring to the Holy Spirit as "she." So if we are to look at the Trinity as 3-in-1, we suddenly see a feminine reference in the original Biblical text to the God many are trying to say is purely masculine. This is why it is so dang important to study the Bible in its original languages, in light of the original contexts. Wish more fundies would figure that out.

No, that's cool. I do think it's important to remember though that if you don't agree with the fundies on something, you have to counter it with something they recognize as authoritative, like the Bible itself. That's why I posted what I did...a lot of Christians want to run from the Truth that the Bible itself puts forth. It's crazy. I'm working on my Masters right now, studying to be a minister, and it's incredible the crap that comes out of fundy mouths.

21. Yes
And wisdom is menitoned as "she" as well in the book of Proverbs. And submitting isn't about being a slave or anything like that. We're all seen as equals in the eyes of Christ. Jesus changed that when he came.
With marriage you're to work together and both have says. The husband is the head of the household but you're supposed to both have says etc.
It's not like a slave/master thing but more-so about respect etc. In Jesus' times women were mostly for taking care of the home and children etc. and the men provided for the family with the labor.

39. Uhm... that varies by faith.
There are some forms of christianity that posit that god has a human, or human-like, male body. All the bits attached, ifyaknowwhatimean. Some believe that christ and god share the same body, some believe that christ has a body, but god does not. Others believe that both god, and christ, have bodies. Yet others believe that there is no "body" to either christ or god, because the body is a vehicle of sin... Getting into the feminine aspect, some believe god is a single male entity, others believe god is an asexual entity, others believe that god is married to a goddess....

Isn't religious schism fun? And if we step outside christianity, it gets even more complex.

57. Well from my studying with Christianity is
Jesus is the son of God and God is just a spirit. Some believe that Jesus is God in the human form but why would Jesus call himself "father" when talking about God? I do believe that Jesus is the Lord and Savior and the son of God. The Holy Spirit joints them together spiritual wise and I also think is a way for God to communicate with us. God doesn't communicate like in the old testament like with Noah but now through Scriptures and answering prayers and I also think your "Intuition".

55. The Root of Religious Misogyny
A couple of things come to mind while reading this. First fundamentalist interpretations of scripture are lunatic. One cannot apply the social norms of an ancient civilization to the post modern world.

It does seem that there is little difference between Islamic fundies and Christian fundies... They would soon have all women covered in head to toe and treat them as little more than chattel. And why?Because a few weak bastards are unable to deal with their own sexuality. "I saw her ankle and I got a boner, now SHE must die!" Just one example of not taking any responsibility for ones own mind.

I feel I should also mention that there is at the very root of patriarchal religion a jealousy of female biological superiority.

There I said it. I am a male and I get it. These fundie men are jealous of a woman's ability to bear children. A woman's biological importance is not some piece feminist of propaganda, it is scientific fact. A group with 10 females and one male has a greater chance of survival over a group of 10 males and one female. If you understand that then you will grasp the significance of female biological importance. This fact underlies all the attempts of male dominated institutions to suppress and malign women. Those men who can't handle a truth that nags their unconscious go on to invent male gods who then usurp the creative power of the female goddess so they can justify putting the female in a lower position. God fashioning Eve from Adam's rib is an example of such patriarchal religious propaganda.

The sooner we rip the veil off of misogynist patriarchal religion the better off we will all be. Men just need to get over it.

I hope one day I can write a whole dissertation on this subject as I find it fascinating.

56. A Boy and His Dog (1975)
Anybody here remember the scenes where Vic (Don Johnson) is captured by the Topeka underground (literally) fundy-like totalitarian group? Vic's use to them is a mechanically-extracted sperm donor.

That was hilarious, wasn't it? All of the brides lined up for the "wedding".

60. You made a good point
The thing to remember is that societies change as well. The Bible was written years ago. There are some things that aren't applied to today that were back than because of how their society was. A lot of it is just common sense and understanding the culture of that time.
