4. I don't think so...
except maybe for the occassional guest appearance. That's too bad - the show suffers without her.

5. I had a hard time listening today
she added a different voice of reasoning to his show, him alone isn't a good thing me thinks. Al is good, damn good...but he needs a side-kick.

6. Al's actually doing quite well
The discourse is not quite as lively, but he has toned down a lot, concentrating on interviews and commentary. I hope he is able to keep it going, but given the fact he has no permanent studio, I fear the end is near.

8. Given the fact that
he will (I think) likely run for Senate in Minnesota, the end may be even nearer than than you've imagined. Thom Hartmann slides into his slot and things go on as before.

9. He won't run until '08
against Norm Coleman. I'd like to see AAR set up a studio for him in MN. That way he can stay on the air while establishing residency.

10. There's room for both Hartmann and Al, I say.
All sorts of arrangements could be made.

They could set up a studio for him in Minn.

He could do an hour here and there, or he could have a regular slot.

There are all sorts of possibilities.

I don't see why we have to be as rigid as the rightwingers are.

We can walk and chew gum at the same time, so-to-speak.

11. It's more complicated than that
There are federal election laws involved, too. Especially those laws and regs pertaining to candidate access to media. Potential to become a real nightmare for AA.

I genuinely believe Thom is the heir-apparent.

12. I don't believe election laws apply
Didn't Alan Keyes have a show while he was running?

13. Witness Tony Truppian's Recent Exit
from talkradio. He's running for Congress. And the election regs are very real. I've read 'em.

22. You may be right
and assuming you are, he doesn't have to declare his intentions until 2007, which gives him at least a year and a half to continue his show.

23. But he needs to start fund-raising yesterday
It would seem there's a very fluid dynamic at work here.

14. I suspect that "left to write a book"
is hogwash and p/r spin for a person who wanted out but didn't want to hurt "the cause." It's "left to spend time with family" for people w/ brains.

The larger question is: did she jump or was she putsched?

16. I'm glad you believe that
But it doesn't change the upcoming dynamic if Franken runs for the MN senate seat. This was a good time for her to "spend more time on her book."

What's it supposed to be about, anyway?

17. I found this on AAR Blog
Katherines last day:
http://shows.airamericaradio.com/alfrankenshow/node/3490

It is with great regret that we write to let you know that Katherine Lanpher will be leaving "The Al Franken Show." Katherine has received a book deal from a new imprint at Time Warner to write a memoir of her move to New York.

While we will miss Katherine every time Al fumbles an interview, mangles an introduction, or has to go to the bathroom in the middle of a segment, in other words, all the time, we are thrilled that she has this opportunity to use the talent that has sustained us at "The Al Franken Show" in a new and rewarding way.

Her deadline in mid-January is unusually aggressive and necessitates an almost immediate departure so that she can begin procrastinating in earnest. Katherine has been very generous in agreeing to work for another two weeks while we prepare as best we can for our Post-Katherine Era.

Her last broadcast as co-host will be on Friday, Oct. 7th. Her first broadcast as best-selling author should take place sometime next spring.

19. I took it that way
but some see there may be other reasons. I used to listen to Katherine on MPR and she was good there and good with Al. Whatever the reasons for the split up, life will go on and hopefully Al will get a new sidekick. I think Rachel Maddow would be good. I think Al had his kid on the other day, but he didn't say much.
Al is expected to run for the Senate in MN and he has been pretty careful not to stick out too far. Imagine what the noise machine would do to an outspoken voice from the left. :scared:

20. the book is about her move to new york
Edited on Fri Oct-14-05 09:45 AM by SheepyMcSheepster
and she has a book deal.

so i think it is safe to say that she is actually writing a book. unless this is some super sekrat rouge to somehow mask the "real" reason for her departure. :eyes:

21. Is that the book
where she's an african princess who comes to New York and lives incognito while working in a fast food restaurant and looking for a husband? No. Wait. That's the storyline Eddie Murphy stole from Art Buchwald.

Sorry. :silly: It's just that a book about coming to New York . . . well, that's NEVER been done before. And it's got deadline pressures? :dilemma:

But she didn't say "booger" on the air like Johnny Fever, and never gave the AA Suits any reason to dislike her, unless there was a ratings issue.
