Our soldiers are conditioned to honor their commander in chief's wishes and wrongly equate blind nationalism with patriotism. They're just doing the job they were trained to do, no matter if the cause is just or not. They're not supposed to think, they're supposed to act which is why bush still retains strong support from the military. Even that is beginning to dwindle though.
