What are the most important issues to DU'ers?
If we beat W and take back the Senate, what should our agenda be? O ther cleaning up Shrub's mess what should we be advocating. What are the big issues. The Economy, Enviroment, Education, Health Care.

1. call me crazy but
restoring balance to media. I see the media leaning much more to the right lately. And while I do value a discourse (balance) I don't see enough of that happening today. A good start will hopefully be the broadcasting Gore is looking into. I see media as a massive source of influence on the public's political views. Taking the presidency in 2004 with a still hostile media could be a bitter victory

2. The Environment.
hands down it is the most important. if the Environment goes to hell nothing else is going to matter. It is also one of those issues were we really only get one chance at losing it. Unless we win each time it comes up we lose it forever. Cut trees never grow back IOW.

If we lose ground on Education we can make it back up. The Economy eventually rights itself in the long run. Even Civil Rights/Equal Rights and Reproductive Rights can be fought again if we really had to. Not that we want to have to mind you.

of a long list

1. Slowing environmental devastation. I hope we'll ultimately be able to stop it, before we steer this planet irrevocably in the direction of being unable to sustain us. To head off disaster, I don't think there's any time to waste.

2. Electoral reform. We must pour as much money and effort as necessary into seeing that every vote in this country is cast and counted fairly. I'm sure I don't need to go into the litany of problems to be remedied here.

3. Fundamental change in international relations. The world is a tinderbox and we keep throwing matches at it. We need to change our military and diplomatic posture in so many ways, including a repudiation of pre-emptive war, a commitment to nuclear disarmament and a solid embrace of international law.

6. Great post!
You said it. The first thing our new Democratic president should do is re-sign the ICC. And then, everything you said. that'll be a good start.

13. Right on. This is THE issue. Also, making the middle class wealthy
is the way to create a bulwark agains the Republicans.

10. Global relations
Restoring international relations, new policy on third world economies, reinstating treaties and getting back to work on Kyoto. If we do these things right, it will require us to implement policies on our own environment that will also create jobs and the need for improved education.

and then work every other issue down from that umbrella.

E.g., education, SS, environmental health, health care, etc. etc.

14. Too many problems to list....
When you have all the pundits, comedians, newspapers, newscasters, multimillionaires, and everyone else in between as campaign managers for all republicans running for office, you might as well fold up office. We have a one party system and it aint democrat. To make it worse, we don't even have a strong democrat running against little man bush. Clark is a republican. No, I will not vote for him or anyone. Voting is a big lie so why waste my time.

17. Stopping the exodus
of jobs from our country. That's number one with me because it directly threatens our standard of living and therefore everything else.

19. it's all about the energy
A true alternative energy plan. Over the long term this would help the environment, massively alter our foreign policy (for the better IMHO) by removing the taint of oil, and, if we can do it quickly enough to stay ahead of the technological curve, yield a huge net positive gain of jobs.

Everything is intertwined. :)

20. Depletion of natural resources, especially petroleum and methane
The whole world is going to be royally screwed if we don't slow down our rate of consumption immediately.
