Did you believe that? Neither did I, but that is essentially what the Bush Administration would like Americans to believe.
Excuse us if we don't believe an Iraqi "informant" could CREDIBLY make such a claim.
In order to believe that we would have to believe:
1. Iraq is Al Qaeda HQ... rebut: this point is not believable because the Bush admin has told us over and over again that Al Qaeda operates as large number of individual cells; it's also not believable because the terrorists in Iraq are actually insurgents trying to get America OUT of IRAQ. It's not a feasible move to the insurgency to reach their goals for group of Iraqi Al Qaeda members to be able to coordinate an attack on NYC.
2. Al Qaeda is a highly-structured, well-coordinated organization... rebut: again, this point is NOT TRUE at all. All indicators given by experts working to fight terrorism point in completely the opposite direction: that Al Qaeda is a loosely-coupled group of independently acting cells.
3. Our government has NO REASON whatsoever for FABRICATING terrorist attacks... rebut: unfortunately, it's very sad to say, that apparently they do, since now we know the threat was a fabrication. The threat was also timed immediately on the heals of a 'HUGH!!!1!' terror speech by Bush and worked out very conveniently for Bloomie. The last such terror threat was, um, LAST NOVEMBER just before the ELECTION... And we'll find out many more connections of terror threats with bad-news for Bush.
Fortunately, the press is getting weary of this shtick and Olbermann is doing a story on the associations of bad-news terror alerts tomorrow.
NO ONE should be satisfied with the "OFFICIALLY" reported story about bad info from an IRAQI INFORMANT. If you believe that, PM me about some bridges I have to sell.
