Smurfs get bombed.
UNICEF has produced a short Smurfs movie in which the Smurf village is bombed into rubble, leaving behind dead and dying Smurfs in a scene reminiscent of an Hieronymus Bosch painting. The video is part of a public education campaign on the ravages of war.

The short film pulls no punches. It opens with the Smurfs dancing, hand-in-hand, around a campfire and singing the Smurf song. Bluebirds flutter past and rabbits gambol around their familiar village of mushroom- shaped houses until, without warning, bombs begin to rain from the sky.

Tiny Smurfs scatter and run in vain from the whistling bombs, before being felled by blast waves and fiery explosions. The final scene shows a scorched and tattered Baby Smurf sobbing inconsolably, surrounded by prone Smurfs.

The final frame bears the message: "Don't let war affect the lives of children..."

"We wanted something that was real war - Smurfs losing arms, or a Smurf losing a head -but they said no."

1. Kinda spooky
But I think it's a good anti-war tool, if it's this scary in a cartoon then it's 10 times worse in real life.

2. Finally! Those little blue bastards
Someone should've bombed them years ago. I'm glad UNICEF has taken them out, once and for all! ;)

3. They way they kept fighting against their liberator Gargamel,
who was merely trying to bring order to their country, they deserve what they got from UNICEF.

12. Oh, this isn't what I thought it was about at all
I often see Smurfs when I'm bombed. But I have to have been drinking Skyy.

6. Unfortunately I heard Rush's response to this today
My husband is republican and home for the day (Columbus Day). He listens to the idiot. What I thought I heard (because I was bent on staying out of earshot) was that he was bitching about how this makes the American military look abroad and someone should make a video of Al Quaida (sp) beheading smurfs, since that would be more accurate.

Sick, sick man.

9. I heard they had a few other ideas turned down as well.
Edited on Mon Oct-10-05 03:08 PM by Vinnie From Indy
They also shot down a few more ideas.

Napalming Sesame Street - This clips shows all the children's lovable friends fleeing in terror as Napalm fuel oil sprays down the street. The final scene has the Grouch emerging from his scorched trash can to survey a scene of total devestation and carnage. Being the Grouch he ends the clip by saying, "I always knew that someday God would torch this place and take out those queer bastards Bert & Ernie. Now, let's find Big Bird's body and have some fried chicken. Yum!"

Carpet Bombing Whoville - This clip shows the peaceful folks of whoville having a marvelous holiday parade when the distant rumble of aircraft engines is heard followed by the low thud of explosions in the distance. As the tiny inhabitants of Whoville look around excitedly the exlosions rapidly move closer. As the first bombs start to rain down on the terrified Whoville folks we see tiny cartoon bodies blown apart in rapid succession and then in a tearful final scene we see Cindy Loo getting obliterated in slow motion just inches from reaching shelter.

11. Pat Roberston's explanation
God has smote the evil Smurfs who allowed Vanity smurf to live his openly homosexual lifestyle in violation of God's will.
