Those were the headlines in my local paper. Government fuel subsidy programs have been cut as well. I have a thousand gallon fuel tank which gets filled three times a year. Ask me if I miss Clinton?

2. The winter of our discontent to be sure.
But look on the bright side - at least gays can't have abortions (or something like that).

3. Cold winter ahead...
I bought a minimum delivery of heating oil two weeks ago - 200 gallons at $2.49 / gal. With the added state sales tax the total was $532. Last summer (2004), the same delivery was $309 ($1.44 / gal.).

I've been using heating oil since 2001, the least I've paid was $1.05 / gallon in 2002.

The thing that pisses me the most is the windfall the state is getting from sales taxes on something we can't live without. Ohio tax on a 200 gallon delivery in 2004 was $21.60, tax on the most recent delivery was $34.36.

I work doing HEAP Intake, it's going to be a long stress filled winter.

4. I'm counting on heating oil to win back the rust belt
If the rust belt doesn't swing back our way after this winter's heating oil price increases, they deserve to keep paying through the nose.

9. Good point, and maybe some of the Southern states too.

Parts of those states can get pretty cold.

7. A 70% increase is expected around here
(midwest / Chicago area)

I was chatting with our Association Pres this weekend. She was telling me how worried they are about it and they're hoping everyone bundles up with thermostats turned down. She said that three years ago we had a bill of about $9,000. It went up to $43,000 and that was why they had to do the one-time special assessment on all of us. I was stunned! $43,000!!!!!

10. Everyone needs to see this. I haven't heard how natural gas prices will
be going up, has anyone else? I think in the south, more people use gas than heating oil.

13. I've heard so many scare stories about the price of heating (gas).
It's October 10. 48 degrees outside and raining.

52 degrees inside ... and I finally broke down and turned on the heat ... to 61.

Gotta do it sometime or other.
