Elect Democrats!
Edited on Sat Oct-08-05 11:17 AM by Mythsaje
I just had an idea for the upcoming campaign season. A nationally-aired series of pro-democrat/liberal campaign ads, sponsored by the DNC itself, and promoting no single candidate.

The first commercial, run for no longer than a week, is negative. It tells about all the investigations, indictments, and charges filed against the Repubs and their corporate allies. Diebold, Haliburton, Blackwater. Armed mercs in New Orleans and Iraq.

It would run for no longer than a week, no more than five times a day.

Then, on the first day of Week 2, we do a compare/contrast between the way things were run under Democratic leadership, and what we have now. How Clinton picked his cabinet, diplomats, and heads of agencies like FEMA. How the Democrats in congress showed respect to the minority Republicans.

Week Three would begin with the Democratic Oath of Good Government (found on my blog), or something like it. An appeal to the American People to seek a change in leadership, and a return to true ethical and responsible government practices. A promise to revitalize the middle class and work toward a living wage, universal education, universal healthcare, and a more honest, just government.

To reverse the trend created by the Republican Party and its inept leadership, it will be necessary to raise taxes. But not for the middle class and working poor. THEY will get the tax breaks this time. The corporations and the ultra-wealthy will only get tax breaks for acting to stimulate the economy--by providing jobs, by acting with social and environmental responsibility. Tax breaks for those corporations who STAY here and hire American. Who don't poison our children with dangerous chemicals. Who do not engage in questionable business practices.

At the end of each ad will be a single slogan.

"Take Back America! Vote Democratic."

edited to change "Democrat" to "Democratic."

1. This is a very good idea...
Please do consider sending this to the DNC. I think Dean would be a hell of a lot more responsive to ideas like this than McAuliffe ever was. We need our version of a Contract WITH America, not ON America, as the Pubs did in 1994.

2. I've been on that jag for months now...
We need a way to reach Americans...we need a message. A strong message.

This is one.

I'll post it on my blog and send it on to the DNC. It wouldn't be the first time. My "Dear Average Republican" is a great outreach document. It got 35 nominations to the Greatest Page the first time I posted it.

I just wish someone else would start running with ideas like these. The Dems seem to have been sitting on their hands. They need to take advantage of all the Republican vulnerabilities right now.

3. Dems sitting on their hands
I agree with that, we learned that just being anti-Bush doesn't do the trick, but we do have to contrast Dems from the GOP. Your ad sequence makes sense. I just emailed the DNC today, too.

We only have a small window of time to use these GOP scandals, just in case the GOP manages to sweep this all under the rug by 2006.

Didn't even know there was a DU group for that. Pretty cool. Maybe someday I'll even post my beliefs there.

We are going thru a quiet period, but stop on in and introduce yourself. We have a lot of UU and non-traditional belief folks. :)
