Ugly e-mail forward I received today, and my response.
Edited on Fri Oct-07-05 06:39 PM by mcscajun
I don't know why this e-mail correspondent of mine (a woman who lives on the edge down in New Iberia) forwarded this to me, but I'm beginning to think she buys into this crap. Used to be she'd send me stuff to debunk, so I'm giving her some benefit of the doubt in my reply. If she just wanted me to debunk it, then she can forward my reply back up the e-mail chain; no harm, no foul. If she's buying into the crap, however, then she'll read my reply and get hit with some ugly truth about herself, and let the chips fall where they may.

First, the forward I received from her:

Subject: Hurricane Rules

Claim: New Orleans blues musician Bill Boudreaux wrote a
list of "Hurricane Rules."

Been sitting here with my ass in a wad, wanting to speak out
about the bullshit going on in New Orleans.

For the people of New Orleans... First we would like to say,
Sorry for your loss.

With that said, Lets go through a few hurricane rules:
(Unlike an earthquake, we know it's coming)

#1. A manditory evacuation means just that... Get the hell
out. Don't blame the Government after they tell you to go.
If they hadn't said anything, I can see the arguement. They
said get out... if you didn't, it's your fault, not theirs.
(We don't want to hear it, even if you don't have a car, you
can get out.)

#2. If there is an emergency, stock up on water and
non-perishables. If you didn't do this, it's not the
governments fault you're starving.

#2a. If you run out of food and water, find a store that has
some. (Remember, shoes, TV's, DVD's and CD's are not edible.
Leave them alone.)

#2b. If the local store is too looted of food or water,
leave your neighbor's tv and stereo alone. (See # 2a) They
worked hard to get their stuff. Just because they were smart
enough to leave during a manditory evacuation, doesn't give
you the right to take their stuff... it's theirs, not yours.

#3. If someone comes in to help you, don't shoot at them and
then complain no one is helping you. I'm not getting shot to
help save some dumb ass who didn't leave when told to do so.

#4. If you are in your house that is completely under water,
your belongings are probably too far gone for anyone to want
them. If someone does want them, Let them have them and
hopefully they'll die in the filth. Just leave! (For
Christ's sakes, it's New Orleans, find a voodoo warrior and
put a curse on them)

#5. My tax money should not pay to rebuild a 2 million
dollar house, a sports stadium or a floating casino. Also,
my tax money shouldn't go to rebuild a city that is under
sea level. You wouldn't build your house on quicksand would
you? You want to live below sea-level, do your country some
good and join the Navy.

#6. Regardless what the Poverty Pimps Jessie Jackson and Al
Sharpton want you to believe, The US Government didn't
create the Hurricane as a way to erradicate the black people
of New Orleans; (Neither did Russia as a way to destroy
America). The US Government didn't cause global warming that
caused the hurricane (We'! ve been coming out of an ice age
for over a million years).

#7 . The government isn't responsible for giving you
anything. This is the land of the free and the home of the
brave, but you gotta work for what you want. McDonalds and
Walmart are always hiring, get a damn job and stop spooning
off the people who are actually working for a living.

President Kennedy said it best... "Ask not what your country
can do for you, ask what you can do for your country."

Thank you for allowing me to rant.

My response:

http://www.snopes.com/katrina/soapbox/boudreaux.asp

They're working on it. It's a fair bet that he didn't write it. GOT to be somebody not from N.O. It might be *this* Bill Boudreaux http://www.blackmeninamerica.com/money.htm but I'm betting on a racist out there attributing this falsely. Somebody who does NOT understand what it's like to live from one minimum-wage paycheck to the next and is on the edge most days, not just when a Hurricane is comin'. Somebody who does NOT understand the importance of N.O...how it came to be what and where it is, and how there are many, many areas of the country that are "illogical" to live on, yet they are HOME to people. Not just rich bastards.

When I sent my response, I was at white heat about this damned piece of filth. I was particularly steamed about some racist fouling the name and words of President Kennedy to justify this crap. Now, reading the original message again, I see all the misspellings and poor grammar, and I know that the "second" Bill Boudreaux didn't write it either. :grr: I was right on my "bet".

3. Let me answer that in the same vein in which it was written...
"Oh, yeah? Listen, if I've been paying into this shithole of a government year after year, and taking it on the chin everytime the damn congress passes more and more laws that don't benefit me and probably actually injure me, then when I'M down and out, starving and thirsty, stuck in a hurricane-blown wasteland, the goddamned government BETTER get off it's goddamned ass and start EARNING ALL THE MONEY AND MISERY IT'S ALWAYS MADE ME PAY!!!

And the government sure as hell IS responsible for giving me sustenance in an emergency like that!! And if the government says it doesn't owe me anything, then I refuse to live under it, and it can just get the hell out of my native country!"

Incidentally, I know some people who were displaced by the hurricane. Their house was under water for 2 weeks--up to the ceiling. They've gotten some FEMA money, some Red Cross money, and some food stamps--all legal, proper, and above-board. These people were not poor. Yet they do not feel the least bit hesitant about taking all that they are legally entitled to--and I say, good for them.

4. reminds of this one I got the other day ...
"Most of the stories you are hearing complaints of not enough help from Katrina are from people of New Orleans who do nothing to help themselves, Never have, expect anything they so desire on a silver platter, and have always been like that! They will never be satisfied." .... :grr: :grr: :grr:

I've been too angry to reply!!! It ends with "God Bless You" btw. :grr:

I cannot believe how anyone could write something like this and it is illiterate as hell besides.

This shows you the ilk of those we are "up against". Bunch of idiots that massage the next idiot's ego they can find.

I did NOT reply. I likely will not reply. I fear what I might say to this BIGOT of a woman. :grr:

6. Darn these Rethugs and their e-mails make me furious
They need a massive reality check. Life for the poor, disabled, homeless, etc. is not the easy-street existence it is for them. Living on minimum wage, particularly when you have a family to support, is no easy task. But then someone who makes 200K a year and drives a Hummer can't be expected to relate I suppose. :eyes:

10. That's what makes me particularly crazy...this woman is NOT rich.
She's one of the barely makin' it deluded of the world.

Husband works the oil rigs when he can get the work, one son in the military...none of 'em all that bright, and living in a house that, up in NJ, wouldn't be called a good shack, right smack in the middle of Cajun country.

Since the earth is only 6000 years old, the Republican clerics are not going to be happy with that statement. Tell your correspondent to re-read her talking points and not spread forbidden information. She wouldn't want a fatwa issued against her, would she?

31. Here was my response when I received this a few weeks ago
(and I cc'd it back to all)

Truly, why spread this piece of idiotic garbage?
This person doesn't have a clue.
She needs to go straight to hell.
She is truly misinformed regarding the situation. Maybe if she would turn
off Fox News she might figure out what is REALLY going on the world--not
just the spoon-fed pablum fed to her by Bush apologists.
With that being said...I hope she has a time in her life to experience the
horrors firsthand of those she condemns.
I surely hope that this person doesn't pass herself off as a
Christian...cause she just failed the test.

Matthew 25:35-40
35For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you
gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36I
needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was
in prison and you came to visit me.'
37"Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry
and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38When did we see
you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39When
did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?'

40"The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one
of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'
