Edited on Wed Oct-08-03 08:06 PM by Snellius
Drudge linked to this. Does anyone know what this means?

http://moneycentral.msn.com/scripts/webquote.dll?iPage=qdext&Symbol=$US:INDU

On Edit:
CNBC site has the market down -1206.50.
Use link at Drudge. DU does not copy url properly.

2. So do MSN.com and the NYSE.com site...(nasdaq.com has it right, though)
Edited on Wed Oct-08-03 08:05 PM by MercutioATC
:wtf:

on edit:

nasdaq.com has the DJIA at 9630.90 (down 23.71) THAT sounds more realistic...

4. I am confused too
Edited on Wed Oct-08-03 08:08 PM by DCDemo
Went to Washingtonpost.com and clicked on Market Information where the numbers were, and it showed a graph that looked crazy - > 9650 this AM, down to this ~8448 at close....and the Post showed -.52 change which makes no sense - down 1200 or out of 9650 is a LOT.

On edit: clearly, someone who passes out the numbers to a lot of folks in the media gave out the wrong number. Oh the perils of modern journalism and technology.

18. Really, I think this may happen some day soon.
If they keep devaluing the dollar, and waging wars all over the world. It seems to be the last thing propping us up.

14. Whenever bad things happen to Bush & the Republicans the stock
market goes up. It's as if there is confidence that things will change for the better. But the more things remain stagnant in an unchallenged Republican environment, the less consumer confidence has a chance to improve.

So, what this means is, that you can steal the political vote from the majority of the people, but you'll eventually pay an economic price for your arrogance.

17. Just testing!
This has been a test of the October Suprise Election Alert System. This has only been a test. If this were really October 2004, a Real Emergency would have been generated to forestall the election. Thank you for your cooperation.

Is it real and they are just saving it in the interest of National Security?

If the DOW really tanked this much would they want us to know?

in one day...there are safeguards that stop trading if it tanks too badly.

24. Put 2+ 2 together
Look at the other Drudge headline - Moscow to switch to Euro for Oil - this would naturally cause deflation of the dollar -

I would expect a crash in the markets based on this news

Now we have "breaking news" that the tanking is due to hackers?

Something fishy....

36. Probably hacked the site they all link to for the quote.
And it seems that a few use a different site...thus, the fact that some sites have the correct closing number while most have the "-1200" number.

34. Again, the DJIA CAN'T drop more than a couple of hundred points before
trading is automatically halted. It happened a few years ago on two or three occasions. This is obviously a hack.

37. It could be the start of a flight to safety
and the US dollar is no longer the safe place to be. We took down the rubble when Reagan was in the WH. Could the russians be returning the favor. I don't trust the market with Bush in charge. It's irrational.
