It seems to me that if this investigation is just about who outed a CIA agent, it's not going to go very far.

But if it expands to where it should, it has wings and who knows where we're headed.

The key to it is whether or not Fitz is just focused on the single crime in question, or if he is following leads that take him in new directions. If he lands on Brewster Jennings, it becomes obvious that there's much more going on here, and this is a very high crime that deserves the most serious attention.

I haven't read anything, rumor or otherwise, that suggests that Fitz is on to Brewster Jennings, and what happened to it after Plame was outed. have I missed it?

And also the Niger documents themselves. I would hope that his investigation would lead to finding out how they got there and who forged them.

1. Do you really think this would have gotten this far if he didn't?
Think about it.

3. Well, there have been very few leaks, so we have no idea where he's going.
I worry that if he expands too far, it will be easier to discredit him like Ken Starr.

At the same time, Brewster Jennings is directly related. I can't imagine he doesn't realize that.

5. outing Plame outed Brewster Jennings -- not much of an expansion
Certainly not as much expansion as from a failed real-estate venture in Arkansas to getting a blowjob. So I wouldn't worry about him being discredited like Ken Starr.

7. Exactly, and I agree.
But if he were to try to expand it to the case for war in general, that would seem to be a stretch, despite the obvious relevance.

6. My recollection is that CIA briefed Fitz, including the national security
damage that resulted as a consequence of Plame's cover being blown. That would include the Brewster, Jennings front and the work that was compromised. Presumably that's the "secret evidence" the judges saw when they spoke of the seriousness of the national security issue that warranted forcing journalists to testify.

8. Yes to everything you said and I would add....a question -,
Edited on Fri Oct-07-05 03:53 PM by higher class
Ariana laid out the four angles for criminality or not involving Plame and who knew what and what Plame's status was at the time, etc. What about Brewster-Jennings - is there no law about outing a company and all their other employees who:
. listed Brewster-Jennings as their employer as Plame did - and
. whose W-2 showed Brewster-Jennings as their employer?.

It seems they would have also been exposed in subsequent ways even though their names were not stated or implied as Plame's was in the newspapers..

It seems that the outing of Plame was the outing of Brewster-Jennings and was, therefore, the outing of the other operatives?

Brewster-Jennings - cover company that was involved in investigating nuclear parts and wmd, especially involving Pakistan with whom Cheney was involved.

Cheney - had to stop investigation.
George - had to take revenge for Wilson.

WHich is the more serious events. Who has the most to lose?

Every time someone says she was exposed for revenge reasons - it leaves out Cheney and he is exonerated in the media as a result.

9. Two words, EIGHT PAGES
That's what was redacted from the written argument presented by Fitzgerald over Miller to a judge who had previously ruled in favor of a journalist protecting their source.

And it convinced him immediately she would be in contempt if she did not testify.

I guaran-god-damn-tee you that he knows all about Brewster Jennings. In fact, I'd say that knowledge will lead directly to at least two, if not three charges on each defendent indicted, not to mention the conspiracy, obstruction, and perjury charges.
