Oil Bill Vote: WTF????
Aside from the criminal activity of the Republicans in congress on this vote, I need to verify something.

As I saw it, 2 votes flipped and then the voting was shut down. Anyone have the numbers or a tv capture?

1. I don't have a capture but I saw it go from 210-212 to 211-211 to 212-210.
And then the vote was gaveled closed by the Speaker.

16. Both flip votes were GOP.

The bill passed 212-210. Its prospects in the Senate were uncertain.

The vote, which was supposed to be taken in five minutes, lasted more than 40 minutes as GOP leaders searched for the last two votes they needed to get the bill approved. They buttonholed lawmakers for last-minute lobbying as Democrats complained loudly that the vote should be closed. Finally two GOP lawmakers switched from "no" to "yes," giving the bill's supporters the margin of victory.

"Is this the House of a Banana Republic?" Rep. Henry Waxman (news, bio, voting record), D-Calif., shouted at one point, expressing his frustration about the GOP holdup of the final tally.

No Democrats voted for the legislation.

4. It was tied, so they held the vote open for 45 minutes
during which time somebody was threatened or bribed and the vote ended up recorded as 210-212. The speaker almost tripped over his own tongue he was talking so fast to close the vote...the democrats starting chanting SHAME! SHAME! SHAME! CSPAN tried to turn off the mics, but then the speaker shut them up by instantly calling for a motion to honor Simon Wiesenthal.

What a disgusting display!

I have no idea why Democrats don't use these events against the Republicans, and hammer them on their procedural fuckery.

John Kerry on Senate Defeat of LIHEAP Amendment

Below is a statement by Senator John Kerry (D-Mass.) on the Senate’s defeat of an amendment that would fully fund the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). The amendment was defeated by a point of order that blocked an up-or-down vote tonight.

“It’s hard to believe that the Republican leadership would stand in the way of emergency funding to help millions of families and seniors heat their homes this winter. By blocking the LIHEAP amendment on procedural vote, the Republican leadership has sent a terrible message to Americans because tonight politics was placed ahead of helping families. It’s the wrong choices in Washington that have put us in this energy crisis, and now it’s politics as usual standing in the way of fixing this mess. American families deserve more from their leaders in Washington than this - this time they are very literally being left out in the cold. If we’ve learned anything from the past months it’s that we need to prepare for trouble ahead. With the defeat of this amendment, we remain unprepared for what may be a long, cold and expensive winter for millions of American families.”

14. MSNBC just covered this story
the vote was only suppose to remain open for 30 minutes but the Republicans held it for an additional 15 minutes while Tom Delay was on the floor to "convince" Republicans to change their vote.

They didn't show footage of the Dems chanting "SHAME!" but the reporter told the story.
