Point of Bush's Speech - Appeasing the Far Right
I knew that Bush was trying to kiss and make up with his Far Right Friends as soon as he used one little word... "Islamofascist".

If you look at other people who go around slinging this word, there is one thing that you can immediately tell about them (Even if they are using it to talk about Terrorists) and that is that they are Bigoted RW'ers.

Maybe Bush is mad with the Muslims because they have snubbed Karen Hughes on a constant basis.

1. What's ironic
is that in the 2000 election, Muslim Americans tended to vote Republican-at least that's what I've heard ( I assume they mean Sunni and Shia, and not Sufi). Now, however, its a different story. I guess demographically, they weren't worth it-and they make an excellent scapegoat for ignorant people looking for someone to hate.

2. I think it was just desperation.
With poll numbers in the low 40's and high 30's he thought that he could regain stature by being the tough guy he seemed to be immediately after the 911 attacks. He's been milking that cow for four years and I think he's found that it has finally run dry.

3. I think we know who the fascists are...

I've heard that term thrown around quite a bit in the past day.

Hey maybe we can start a new one: "Conservo-fascist".

4. Can anyone point me in the direction
of what the general public thought about his speech? Have there been any polls or commentary?
