How much money do these "Hightened Alerts" cost?
I live in NYC and can't help but treat these alerts with skepticism given the always uncanny timing of their announcement. Seeing the hightened security in action, I can't help but wonder, "How much is this costing the tax payer?"... and not only that, but what are the costs to business here in the city with transportation delays and folks who actually believe them saying "I'll just stay home today"?

This administration has cried wolf so conveniently and often that it strains credibility... one can almost predict when an alert will be forthcoming simply by looking at Chims pol #'s.

1. Oh, they cost big time!
Think of all the overtime for police, firefighters and others who have to standby on alert status. Sometimes there are federal funds available to help offset part of the costs.

2. The Federal funds have to come from somewhere...
Don't they ultimately come from us?

5. Yep. Those of us
who don't live in NY are paying for it, too.

6. Absolutely!
That was my point. I wasn't just refering to NY state taxes... everyone has to pony up.

3. Enough to house hundreds of hurricane survivors through the winter.
Maybe thousands. Each time.

4. It pisses me off
and alot of others, too... Katrina was just a distilled example of the criminal negligence that is modus operandi for this cabal in the White House.

7. Much too much
When the terra color is increased, smaller towns are bleeding money due to increased OT for police and fire departments, etcetera. There is a protocol that must be followed (checking the water supply, etcetera,) that ends up being pretty spendy. I was shocked when I discovered how much this was costing our little town.

The other thing currently causing all police and fire departments to hemmorhage money is the increased cost of gas...

8. Money? Hell, there's no money problem! Don't Worry!
Most is passed to states and agencies of states who have to pay the overtime, hire extras, pay for more gas, more donuts, etc.
