11. Less Dems and more independents is what we need.
this current system of government really doesnt work the best. Its always us vs them, winner take all. I think a multi-party power sharing system would work better.

Whats happening to the republocrats today happened to the demopubulicans. Get angry, get active, get a message, get elected, Get powerful, get greedy, get in trouble, get voted out of office by someone who got angry. wash rinse repeat.

constitutional amendment required parsed right?

Thought so

By the way welcome to DU... but the problem is Constitutional

The founding fathers did not want a system of factions (parties) and believed this system would avoid it... they were wrong obviously, but John Stuart Mill was late by seventy years too.

When and if that amendment happens it will happen only after a civil war, aka when a new constitution is written, call it a bad feeling on that one

We dont all feel THAT loyal to the party. I think most of us would choose democratic ideals over party loyalty and are often frustrated at dem squishiness

17. they have the Senate Well on the right upper corner, and
they are filling the time (been five + hours) with previeus programing

What you are looking for are the Dems coming back in and C-SPAN basically switching back to the Well and basically going back to procedure...

18. They haven't returned for the quorum call.
Edited on Fri Oct-07-05 12:18 AM by deadparrot
They have until 4:30AM to vote.

On defense spending. From the small shards of info I can gather from the thread in GD politics, Landrieu's pissed about not getting funds for NOLA, but no one's quite sure what's going on.

23. Is that the 50 billion or 50 million or what ever the number was
Additional defense spending for Iraq? Are the Dem's refusing to vote so that the bill dies?

Throw a late comer to the party a bone here, please. :)

25. I'm not 100% sure...
It flashes up on the screen every once in a while "30 hours of debate on defense spending scheduled to 4:30AM eastern."

I THINK it's the same bill, but I'm not 100%, but yes, there is a proposed $50B to be allocated to Iraq.

29. Reading (not readying) DU? Hope so. The quorum is NOT about
Miers, its about defense spending, right? (I just turned it on...was watching U2 on Conan O'Brien, and I'm not used to watching C-Span, but I've been loving it recently! Thanks to DU)

Edited on Fri Oct-07-05 12:21 AM by deadparrot
Dems haven't returned. They've got until 4:30AM to vote.

Speculation: Landrieu's pissed about giving $50B to Iraq after the BS that went on for NOLA, but we don't know anything for sure at the moment.

36. Well, there was 30 hours of debate scheduled to end at 4:30,
but they ended up postponing it until 8:15AM EST. I thought I caught something about"working through the night" to find a compromise.
