are oldies but goodies that I am reading. Lords of the Press (Seldes) and The Press and the Cold War (Aronson) The latter has much info about McCarthy and McCarthyism and a brief mention of Murrow. The former is about the secrecy in the American Press and the work of George Seldes which I think that FAIR (
http://www.fair.org/index.php ) is carrying on, correct me if I am wrong on that.
It seems these oldies may be relevant to our time, especially with Gore's recent speech in which he talked about the lack of a public forum for public discussion, dialog, discourse, etc. and the serious threat that poses for our Democracy. Gore's speech indicates the problem that Seldes and Aronson dealt with in a somewhat different context - that of a few people controlling the media and/or news (in our case it's TV).
Just curious if anyone is familiar with these men or has any thoughts on the matter.
