So Rove will not testify on Friday after all.... (breaking: Faux News)
Edited on Thu Oct-06-05 11:50 PM by MazeRat7
just in.... no link yet but his attorney sent an email to Faux News.
I wonder if any other MSM outlet got the same email.
Is was a break-in just before the re-run of the non-stars.

Edited on Thu Oct-06-05 11:46 PM by MazeRat7
Go figure ? I was just sitting here doing some work with my "latest favorite comedy channel" and that is what they "broke in with as breaking news"..... I dunno, just passing along what I heard.

either that or Dimson signed the pardon.

7. Maybe someone told his lawyer
that sending your client up to testify before a grand jury as a target is a BAD idea. I get the feeling that Rove is still dealing with this as a political problem instead of a criminal problem. He's thinking he will say that he WANTS to testify but then blame it on someone else when he doesn't- mislead, misdirect, his usual bag of tricks. While that may provide political cover, such high-jinx won't keep his ass from being indicted. You should have gone to the mattresses Karl.

8. Well of course it was a bad idea....
Edited on Fri Oct-07-05 12:10 AM by MazeRat7
and you are right... he is just not getting (or willing to accept) that this is a criminal case. I am sure his thinking was exactly along the lines you pointed out.

eg... I'll go have a "chat" with them and because I am "Rove"... certainly they will accept my testimony as "expert" and move on to other things....

Can you imagine trying that approach in any county court in the US ? *LOL

9. Fitz to Rove: You can now be indicted
Chris O'Donnell said tonight that Rove was now beyond the usual, "you are a target," letter and that Fitz warned him that if he testified tomorrow his statements might be used in an indictment.

Agree, that sworn testimony before a GJ and answering prosecutors tough questions would have left him little room to dissemble.

By now, the other five appearances have sealed his fate and his words are memorialized.

12. You're right--it's always best for a criminal client
to use his right to remain silent if there's ANY hope of prevailing without his testifying. Remaining silent can't be used against you in any way.

I can't help but think that testifying tomorrow was ol' Karl's idea, not his lawyer's... a show of bravado from the little piggy, perhaps.

And as the night wore on, the little piggy suddenly realized that he'd better crawl back into his sty and shut the f**k up.

Going in front of a grand jury multiple times is NEVER a good idea.

24. Yes, he probably did! Rove has this problem--
unlike most criminals, he has a public image to maintain, so he can't just publicly flip the bird at the prosecutor and say "I'm taking the 5th." He has to pretend to the public that "I have nothing to hide, and of course I am fully cooperative--I have no reason not to be."

Plus, he has not only his own image (which I'm sure is, in his mind, a glorious one) to protect--he is identified in the public's mind as being a central part of the White House.

It's great to smile again. Only problem I have right now... did you ever get a tune stuck in your head, and it keeps playing and playing and playing? I can't stop humming "Piggies" from the Beatles' White Album...

11. Rove has the right to remain silent.
Anything Rove says can be used against him in a court of law.

Rove has the right to have an attorney present during questioning.

If Rove cannot afford an attorney, one will be furnished by the court.

16. He does not have a right to an attorney being present when
testifying to a grand jury. He is in there all alone.

Gosh, I like that visual!

21. I did - I am familar with Miranda
I just didn't want anyone to think that was really the case in a grand jury.

I like the idea of him sitting there, sweating it out, wondering what someone else might have testified to, with no mouthpiece to advise him.

It did not say he would not testify at all.... I sure wish I had the DVR running so I could have posted some video. Sorry.

I suspect this is serious enough that they are looking for more prep time.

20. This sort of flip-flop, so public as it is, suggests confusion around Rove
Edited on Fri Oct-07-05 12:45 AM by Opposite Reaction
Which suggests to me that Rove is in trouble.

I think that who ISN'T indicted may be as important as who is, within a tight circle. It may suggest who has scored immunity.

I wonder if anyone will try to bolt the country? Hee hee!

On edit: I now grok that he is not expected to testify tomorrow, but that he might on Tuesday or whatever. Ain't over 'till it's over.

No link and no video is available as has been stated several times. This is just an observation from someone that had the tv on in the background and perked up when this was mentioned.

Sorry... it is what it is. A first hand report. So if it's not true and he testifies tomorrow, then they (FAUX) were lying. However, if he doesn't show for GJ tomorrow then I guess its accurate.

Seriously, all they said is he would not testify tomorrow. Not that he would "never" testify to the GJ. Subtle difference, but informative about the load of shit he is in.
