The Shame Of A President Removed From Office
I am almost giddy with the thought of it happening to Bush in my lifetime.

1. After a hot August of watching
the Watergate episode unfold on TV, I remember Tricky D*ck bidding us farewell as he left his Presidency just ahead of the sh*t really hitting the fan.
I hope this guy bids his Presidency adieu well before August of this year.

3. I remember the resignation speech like it was yesterday.
I was in Gulf Shores, AL w/ my immediate and extended maternal family.
No one said anything. We just watched. We were in sort of a shock.
It was an amazing and historic event.
Interesting that this scandal takes place as the Gulf Coast is devastated.
:(

4. What was the feeling before the resignation?
How for into Watergate were they? Did most people see the resignation coming?

Just some questions from a 24 year old.

5. It Was Unreal...
By August '74, people were sick to death of Watergate, and even sicker of Nixon. Ever since the "Saturday Night Massacre", a steady dripping of unbelievable shit had come, one after another--the missing tapes, the 18-minute gap, the transcripts, the impeachment hearings...we were all in shock. Finally, the "smoking gun" transcript that clinched it, even for the GOP neanderthals... We were just shell-shocled, and wanted it to be over. But we all knew it was coming...

6. It was all over but the resignation. Nixon chose to resign rather than be

impeached and, most likely, convicted and imprisoned. It was the end of the line. The nation was tired of the scandal and in shock after the resignation.

I was in 4th grade. My parents, uncles and aunt and grandparents did not speak about the crisis. I asked mom about it and she said "You wouldn't understand." I thought "bullshit, yes I would." My mom NEVER talks about politics. I think she votes Republican but who knows. We all sat in front of the TV that night and watched the speech. No one said a word.

The next day, Nixon boarded the helicopter and he was gone. Ford became President.
