Why is everyone so convinced that there will be indictments today?
I keep seeing all these threads and posts from people like it's Christmas morning. What gives?

As far as I know, we have nothing but some rumors from little-cited sources and a * speechifying event this morning.

Have I missed something, or are people just getting all jacked up over nothing?

1. Rumours-I believe more that a Friday late afternoon indictment
would be more likely, after the news cycle closes for the weekend.

3. I think they are all just hoping. But in my opinion,
I doubt that there will ever be any indictments. If so, they won't stick for long.

22. If indictments are issued, Yours is the best guess as to when.
At most, it will be a couple of days before the GJ is dismissed. That's just the way lawyers work. There is always an incredible amount of paper work to be done. And they will need lots of time to negotiate deals with the "targets."

If no indictments are issued, the prosecutor may want to prepare a statement or report to the AG to explain that decision. Either way, there is a lot of work involved, I should think.

5. Its the effects of living in the echo chamber we have here.
Rumors get amplified to the point you lose reference to their origin.

usually somone's leaking to someone---and people who are familiar with how all this works are pretty good at telling that something's about to happen.

8. Because of this thread re presstitutes.com
Edited on Thu Oct-06-05 10:21 AM by greyl
Du thread here

Interrupting our regular focus on Pre$$titution, we want to let readers know that rumors are flying around D.C. that over a dozen indictments may be coming in the Plame case.

We caution that we are reporting a RUMOR. Nothing more. And this may be absolutely false. Still there is definitely chatter in Washington circles....

edit: of course that doesn't really explain why people are "so convinced" ;)

9. You're right but consider the time Fitz' may want to protect
As the indictment warnings go out (as rumored they did), Fitz will want people to consider coping pleas. He will want something more than the satisfaction of getting a guilty plea. That will mean negotiating with any weasels that emerge. That will take time, maybe a week. Then Fitz will need to return that information to the GJ so he can seek indictments on further charges, that could take a week.

So, I agree with you it doesn't need to be today, but it needs to be before the end of next week, or Fitz will need to extend the GJ, and I have the feeling he wants to avoid that.

the investigation has reached "a critical phase."

Geez, where have I heard THAT before?

If Rove is actually indicted, well, that's great, but as I've said, I don't put too much stock in Plamegate doing any great damage to the corrupt administration.

It's just a run-of-the-mill scandal in an administration that's nothing but scandal.

I'm not trying to live up to my name here and bum everyone out. Just a little guarded.

So, let me get it straight - rumors are that 22 people will be indicted today.

Convince me and I'll  with the rest of y'all!

18. Because today is my birthday...really, it is!
Edited on Thu Oct-06-05 10:53 AM by BleedingHeartPatriot
The last thing of historical note that happened on my birthday was Oct 6, 1981, when Anwar Sadat was assassinated.

I heard that on my clock/radio before I'd even gotten out of bed, that day.

I'd love to have a good historical event today. (Interesting that I find criminal indictments against a sitting prez and his administration good news, but hey, that's the world we live in.)

That's my hope and I'm sticking to it. :hi:

21. Well..
Earlier this week we were supposed to celebrate the Miers pick.

Now today we are supposed to be celebrating indictments that have not been handed out yet.

I think we're becoming way too fast to hit the celebration stage. We should focus on actually "winning" something first.

24. I think it's just that it's we've been fighting this for so long,
and this could finally be our vindication, that everyone is really getting their hopes up. Myself included. I have to keep fighting back the glee I feel at what MIGHT happen so I don't set myself up for serious disappointment. We all want to believe this is true so badly! I will allow myself one little :bounce:
