Should we punish those who deny people stem cell research.
Somewhere theres a thirteen year old girl that needs steem cell research for her hemophilia. She is probably using birth control pills as a means to control it but the pro lifers want to ban that as well. Somewhere theres a ninety year old man in the throws of als, suffering and being denied of the potential of a miracle his family his praying for. Somewhere someones grandma is being slow bled to death on dialysis for diabetes.
The author of this text has young onset parkinson's. And right now my hands are shaking terribly. I cannot speak right, walk without falling, or hold a job. How dare that these prolifers make me and other people suffer for thier religious beliefs.
We can debate when life begins to the cows come home. However I am a living thinking human being. I want to be a productive member of society you have no right to sentance me to a slow bleed torture.
And that is what the prolife crowd is doing by denying everyone who needs this research. There torturing us and condenming us to idignity and misery for their own narrow view points.
So I ask my follow DU'ers if parkinsons is torture and stem cell can cure the torture shouldnt the ones who are against stem cell be put in jail for torturing me? I am a living thinking interacting human after all. THank you all end of sermon . Danny.

5. Actually, the cells aren't even in a petri dish...
...they are flash-frozen. THAT's the part that really flumoxes me. Most of these samples expire and are discarded. A small percentage are actually used for IVF. If a couple signs off on it, why shouldn't we move forward. Will we all live like the Chinese emporers, preserving every nail clipping and dropping and hair tangle?

What the "pro-life" anti-stem cell people advocate is a position obviously ignorant of the facts. Most of the samples are flushed. Why should we discard so much, ESPECIALLY if it's "life" as the rw proclaims, rather than letting what would have been discarded enhance life? The alternative is that the RW start setting up camps where they force girls of 12 to begin their forced pregnancy duty to the state and bringing all those blastocysts into the world.

2. my oldest and best friend has PD
and "punish" the opposition? No, I'd like to beat them blind.

That is simply how I feel. Sentencing people to death as surely as if they shot them with a gun. I have no use for these people, none at all.
It is a mean small God they worship it certainly isn't one I'm acquainted with.

take care, stay with your friends here and know that many of us are fighting the fight.

3. I'm sorry, too...
Yes, they should be jailed for imposing torture on others--no one should have to live that way.

So many of them seem to want to take things back, to a time before science could help things--as if somehow that is God's will. But I don't believe in that. God helps people through people, and their inventions, creation, technology, etc. Seriously, do they really want to go back to the days of the black plague, polio and no indoor plumbing. :wtf:

They seem rather selective in the ideas that offend them that they want to see abolished. They don't want stem cell research, yet they wanted Schiavo kept alive by artificial means. You're right in that their thinking makes no sense at all. At least it doesn't to me...

While I do believe they should be punished, I don't believe we should impose it. I think the universe will give them what they are supposed to have--for having such little empathy for others.

4. on the bright side,
these clowns seriously damaged the "pro-life" movement with Terry Schiavo, and people are now seeing that the whole thing is really a culture of death. Hang in there, these clowns (Frist one of the first) will be gone soon. The research will go on a little here and a lot overseas, until we get rid of the fundies in power. States are now competing to fund this stuff, so that tells you something about where this is headed. In simple terms, it's a losing issue for the right, and will help push some of them out of office.

My mom has Parkinson's and it is making her life pretty difficult. I feel for her and for you.

6. Imagine all the childhood diseases that could be cured
It's just not me that am worried about, but all the sick kids out there. I mean if these self righteous pigs gave a damn about god they would want to see little kids taken care of - at no charge. The hypocrisy just eats me up you know?

7. Yep, I have a child with type 1 diabetes. Intensely personal and painful!
I have no respect for those that bought the righty propaganda and voted for a guy who was using them for votes.

My niece is a hemophiliac. Her parents send her to a catholic school because its more of a "controlled environment". The other day a kid on the play ground took a plastic knife a went to her " I want to see how you bleed." She wears an id bracelet Where do these people get these things.
