Let's start an internet movement for nationwide protests, August 23
Saturday August 23rd. It's a bit over a month away. We should have nationwide protests calling for bringing our trooops home. All of them. Pull out and let the chips fall where they may.

When I saw this morning that we were going to one year tours of duty in Iraqnam, I knew the quagmire had settled in. We CANNOT allow another generation of young men and women face an unwinnable war halfway around the world to give their blood and lives for the cause of greedy rich men in America!

Support our troops, Bring "em On Home!

15. I agree
We need to take to the streets. Without the Drums of War silencing the media, hundreds of people protesting the government might actually make an impact. How is it unpatriotic to ask to bring home the troops so they aren't killed in a war action started on lies? It isn't, it is very patriotic.

We can be out there waving the flags and holding signs with a little picture of Superman that say "Truth and Justice used to be the American Way" and other signs that point out the obvious "Bush lied, people died!"

3. Thanks, Walt
I've been thinking the same. We either leave sooner with fewer casualties or later with far too many. Time to organize.

7. Someone else suggested the same last night.
I completely agree that protests will help get the message out that Americans are not happy with Bush.

Does anyone have any contacts with the founders of MoveOn? They would be a great starting point for getting the message to potential protestors.

9. Methinks you should contact United For Peace. . .
at www.unitedforpeace.org
and float your idea around to them. They'll help you set it up.

11. I suugested
the same on another site earlier today.....only I was for the bus rides to DC and marching in the street. We have the ammo.....Bush lies, democracy and our servicemembers DIE. We have the backing of a greater part of the public (every person who puports to SUPPORT THE TROOPS should take part -- the situation that once divided us can now unite us)......I actually thought of asking protesters to dress in camo and carry packs as heavy as our troops wear in the desert as a show of solidarity (minus any weapons of course, don't want the trigger-happys to have any reason to kill us). As a veteran, I find the abuse of the armed forces in a fabricated war an abomination and would fully support in person street protests NOW.
Yes it's hot out but let's turn more heat on the WH and impeach and then JAIL the cons. It's hotter in Iraq......let's divert some of that heat to Dumbass and his merry warmakers.

12. I contacted my local human rights groups this morning
to put a bug in their ears about this idea. Everyone else should do the same. A flood starts with one raindrop.

13. Does anybody have any "ins" into Indymedia?
They were crucial in setting up the pre-war protests.

19. I've sort of been surprised
That nobody, not ANSWER, United for Peace and Justice, not Moveon, has tried to really organize anything large scale like we had before the war. I think we could easily have protests as large as the pre-war protests.
