Conservatives In Revolt Over Harriet Miers...
They were spoiling for a fight and didn't get one...For all of Bush's failings which are manifest I think he realizes he can not govern effectively with his base only....

1. It's really great to see them attacking their hero, George W. Bush.

3. Odd situation
Conservatives couldn't hope for a more far-right nominee, yet they are voicing more opposition to Meirs than liberals. Ideology aside, the in-your-face cronyism of this nominee makes me sick.

4. George Bush's actions are making it
very hard for the next conservative to run... They will associate all the crap from this administration with the Republicans and the Repugs will have a lot to explain as they tow the party line all the way...

8. Right, and towing the Party Line is looking pretty thin to the rest of US
now, because of Katrina.

Remember also, BushCo is not comprised of real Conservatives; they're Neo-Cons. A person could deal with a real honest Conservative, but you get nothing but obfuscation, ignorance, contradictions, hypocrisy, and lies from BushCo's Neo-CONS.

The real Conservatives were hoping for competence again, to insure the deal for O'Connor's seat, and Meier simply doesn't have Credentials. This is a very important fact to real Conservatives, even if she turns out to be a genius, she's had no part in the Constitutional discourse that's being going on in U.S. for so long.

9. The Republican Party Like The Democratic Party Is Made Up Of Many Groups
And some of these groups have competing interests and values... You have

-socially and fiscally moderate suburbanites

- socially conservatives fundies

-socially liberal and fiscally conservative investors

A smart Democratic candidate in 08 can hopefully exploit the schisms between these groups...

6. They aren't revolting...they are playing a little
"tough love" with *ie. Trying to remind him that they were his date to the dance. It's their way of telling him he better make Miers tow the line. I find that disturbing because it presents a scenario in which the executive has control over the judiciary. They've done this with Congress already.

7. Well, I think they're extremely revolting.

(Sorry, I couldn't resist. )

I think you're right, though, that they think they want the executive to have control over all branches of government. And that is, to me, a horrifying prospect. I suspect, though, that if they contemplated a Democrat having that kind of control, they'd be strongly against it. They seem to assume Rethug control in perpetuity.

10. Conservatives Are Finally Facing What They Selected
Right-wing reactionaries are finally facing what they elected--a corrupt, crony-capitalist regime with scant regard for law, the Constitution, traditions of American government, honesty, or integrity. I believe that the Far Right has known all along what it voted for when right-wingers voted for Gee Dubya Bush and other Banana Republicans; if they weren't willing to admit it to themselves, they certainly knew in the back of their minds just what sort of regime they were voting to install. Now they're forced to confront the true nature of Gee Dubya and the Duck Soup Posse and there's no place to hide.

I have no pity or sympathy for the Far Right. They're getting what they richly deserve.

11. I Don't Have Much Sympathy For Them Either...
I like to watch them crack up...

It's interesting that Bill Kristol is carping about this pick...

Perhaps he tired of following all the other bad advice Kristol gave him like attacking Iraq...
