Miers reminds me of the stereotypical aging loyal secretary
who has no life of her own but slavishly adores her boss and is his pit bull.

I listened to her speech today on Cspan, and frankly, her views aside, she is one boring, repetitive women... truly a mediocre choice.

1. and that is what she basically is
she will, however, probably consistently vote with Thomas and Scalia if confirmed, precisely because she has no convictions of her own other than her loyalty to her master.

7. Maybe, but I don't think you can discount the effectiveness of the other
justices. Remember, each of them tries to convince the others to gain a majority opinion. Many times, when someone like her is separated from that boss, others have a great influence on their new life! She sure doesn't appear to be a strong willed individual to me.

4. That would be Miss Hathaway, actually. No "Ms." for her.

8. You never know how things will work out
from a personal psychology perspective, which is quite aside from the ideology. She won't be around George any more.

She may bond with Ruth Bader Ginsberg as the only two women on the court. They may have alot in common.

And you can bet your ass Scalia will try to intimidate and bully her, which I'd bet would have the opposite effect. Besides just being an ugly ideologue, he seems to have a personality that is overbearing and controlling and wouldn't be appealing to anyone who doesn't agree with him. Unless she's just in line with him, I'd bet his angry sanctimoniousness would do anything but make her swoon like you think she does over Georgie. But then I can't imagine anyone liking that shithead.

But I like to think of a half-full glass until I know more. I like to imagine her and Ruth Bader as a two-team for women and civil rights. With John Roberts going up against loudmouth Scalia and beating him every time. Then I get to finish off with a fantasy of rabid righties explodiing at their lost opportunity to pack the court with nutcases.

It may be an unlikely scenario, but I'll hold onto the dream until either Roberts of Meirs wrecks it.
