Do you think that they were just waiting for something to jump on him about? Obviously, they've had to deal with quite a few ego-bruises in supporting this clown, and now it's not even worth it, since Pat Robertson didn't get nominated.

They could just be unbelievably angry at the fact that they stuck up for him, through the incompetence, without being paid off. Bush did not nominate someone who would clearly thrash the evil liberal/gay/Muslims.
