I was talking to a friend in D.C. who passed along the following story.

Reporters were asking the openly gay congressman Barney Frank if David Dreier was denied DeLay’s leadership position because he was too moderate – or because he was gay. Frank said it was because Dreier was too moderate, and then quipped, “And I’m going to a moderate bar after work tonight.”

Dick Armey referred to Frank as "barney fag" and then said it was a slip of the tongue.

Frank said something to the effect that he had spoken to his mother, and in all the years after she had married his dad nobody had ever mistakenly referred to her as "Betty Fag".

I have to find the exact quote. I bet he worked on that line for hours, it was so good.-

I remember the Barney Fag "slip of the tongue" but I never heard Frank's response. He seems pretty quick on his feet tho. The anecdote above was an off-the-cuff remark to reporters' questions.
