I wonder if anyone has been collecting the dirt on Miers? Single,
Edited on Mon Oct-03-05 02:06 PM by texpatriot2004
at her age? Hmm. You know, when people move into the spotlight things have a way of surfacing all of the sudden. I would bet that there are some who have been collecting information about her for awhile now just in case something like this were to happen. I wonder how long it will take for said dirt to surface? Anyone care to guess?

After all, she was a personal attorney to that lying lunatic * AND an assistant to the TORTURE GUY plus she has only practiced CORPORATE LAW.

What exactly do you mean by that? Is being single a stigma in this society? I had thought we grew beyond that mindset.

It can be a real (no pun intended) eye-opener.

Check out this website -- explains a lot:

14. Hey, I didn't say anything about "spinsterhood" or "lesbianism"
just that her being single doesn't meet the image requirement (especially for "Conservatives") of a nice family picture. Get it?

Okay, look, I don't care if she is single - makes me no nevermind - but in politics, people look at how things look and family matters. I don't mean any disrespect to single women. I just think that, like it or not, there is an image factor in the public arena. You know what I mean?

6. My problem with her being single and childless is her lack of empathy.
There are plenty of people who don't have to walk in someone's shoes to feel compassion, but this is a woman who has nothing but allegiance to bush and the rest of us be damned. I would like to see some semblance of common ground between her and the rest of us.

As Shakespeare said, (to the best of my memory), "He jests at scars that never felt a wound."

I don't think this woman will be able to relate at all to the trials of everyday women and their families. She is just another dancer on the corporate profit pole.

8. you're kidding, right?
First of all, do you hold this same standard to other justices, or just the women?

Secondly, do you honestly believe that childless people are lacking in sympathy and empathy??

19. No, I'm not kidding, and I'm referring specifically to Ms. Miers.
The childless, unmarried women I know are some of the most compassionate, loving people on earth.

But they don't think bush is "brilliant" and they aren't corporatists. I'm saying she has no common touch. Nothing in her background indicates, so far, that she realizes what everyday women have to deal with.

23. That's not what you said.
You said your problem with her being single and childless was her complete inability to understand the problems we face every day.

From my world view, she represents me. I am single and childless. From your view, I am not someone like you. That is, if you base your reasoning on what you wrote above.

If you're unhappy about her Bush worship, then please state so. Her being unmarried and not a mommy has nothing to do with her ability or lack thereof to feel compassion.

She is a corporatist to the marrow of her bones. AFAIC, the only thing I have in common with her is basic anatomy.

38. You're so right. I'm spinning like a top here.
Especially considering that I, too, am single, over 40, and have no children. Furthermore, my two best friends enjoy the same status. That's right, I said enjoy. We like it this way.

I wasn't going to say anything about my status, but the leaping to conclusions about why I'm apprehensive about Ms. Miers is making my head spin.

Plus she did some pro bono work for a Catholic charity, something to do with immigration, but I didn't look up the case. 125 hours over her whole distinguished corporatist career.

7. Many folks choose to not marry
Her choices have nothing to do with her performance as a lawyer of judge.

It's also difficult to maintain personal relationships when you work as many hours as she purpotedly works.

31. maybe in their twisted mindset
an unattached postmenopausal woman = a male. Who knows? Who cares? I'm far more worried about what this woman might do on the bench than I am about who/what she shares her living space with... although I'd think more of her if some cats approved of her. Cats are usually pretty discriminating creatures. :-)

Harriet was Bush's counsel. I wonder if Harriet has said bad stuff about Pricilla Brown to Bush the last five years because they had a fight over a man. If so, that would be hilarious.

does that give her het credentials? Or does it just make her more appealing to guys who like to fantasize about girl-on-girl action...sheesh.

It would be lovely if someday people could truly be evaluated for a job on things other than their personal lives.
