The reaction by the Right to Miers is a smokescreen
I will bet every nickle I own that she's stealth Satan, and the Loonies on Right Street are doing this to suck in Reid and the pacifiers.

Mark my words today. Our Constitution goes to Hell if she isn't defeated.

1. Reid was one of the people who recommended her. How do you explain that?

7. How does that fit in with your theory that she's nominated to "suck in"
Democrats? Obviously, Reid had recommended her before there was a GOP plan, as you contend.

11. I JUST called Reid's office in Washington
He didn't recommend her AT ALL. He has NOT decided to support her as yet.

14. Then I guess all the sources are wrong...
Linked from the Huffington Post:

Reid had personally recommended that Bush consider Miers for nomination, according to several sources familiar with the president's consultations with individual senators. Of equal importance as the White House maps its confirmation campaign is that the Nevada Democrat had warned Bush that the selection of any of several other contenders could trigger a bruising partisan struggle.

4. He did not confirm that in his press conference
He said that he liked her because she was polite and returned his phone calls. Not exactly a ringling endorsement.

In addition, dont forget that Reid himself said that Lindsay Graham would be a good nominee. I certainly would not agree with him on that.

6. Reid is a Mormon who opposes a woman's right to choose
I can't imagine why he was ever elected minority leader in the Senate, unless nobody else wanted the post. Sometimes I think we Democrats are our own worst enemies.

3. Agreed, a smokescreen.
I think Reid made a major mistake from lack of knowledge in recommending her (if he did, and I'm not sure about that--he praised her, perhaps).

She's worse than bad.

8. She's an anti-choice fundie
She's been a member of the View Christian Church in Dallas for 25 years.

They want the rank and file going ballistic over her so that they can oveturn Roe this year and completely solidify the base.

9. The Conservative reaction is true.
Edited on Mon Oct-03-05 01:05 PM by dr.zoidberg
It has to be. No one in Washington can keep a conspiracy. This is proven because if Nixon couldn't keep one, then no one can.

Edited for clarification.

15. The intellectual innocence of our elected leaders is
astounding! Having been driven by circumstance into a life of enforced idleness, I have spent a lot of time (too much) with c-span, democracy now and democratic underground, among others. Time after time it has been brought home to me how woefully uninformed these political types are. Are they simply too busy to observe any of the real world, outside their own offices? Are they committed to total ignorance in order to avoid confusing themselves with the facts and avoid antagonizing their political opponents?
Maybe their staff people have been so infiltrated with undercover ops from the rest of the Washington criminal conspiracy that they are insulated from any facts at all.
Maybe I've become jaded and expect too much, but these dumber than ape shit types have just exceeded my worst outrage. How the hell can we be expected to support any of them on anything when they suffer from such a dose of anal-ocular response that they have become less informed than an overworked second grade school teacher? :puke:
Gaaaa! A half hour of googling or a morning spent perusing DU would turn them from snake-brained sycophants to comparative mental giants!
Okay, okay--soap box pushed firmly back under bed (with shaky hand) and a promise not to remove it for at least a few minutes--blood pressure gage range only goes so high.
