French connection to New Orleans must survive hurricane
CAMERON PARISH, United States (AFP) - France's ambassador to the United States toured the storm-ravaged Louisiana coast and promised help for France's "brothers and sisters" in the battered region.

Millions of dollars in donations from companies in France have already been gathered and earmarked for New Orleans and environs, Levitte said.

Money will be spent on resurrecting French immersion and bilingual schools in the portions of Louisiana devastated by hurricanes Rita and Katrina, according to the ambassador.

"All the French have Louisiana in their heads and want to help make New Orleans better and more beautiful than ever," Levitte said. "Louisiana is, in a way, part of the history of France."

1. I am sure ShrubCo et al will tell them to shove it
France is certainly a big hearted country to want to help Americans, after so many of its people and its government have shat on it.

3. He can't
He cannot prevent France to make donations for social, medecine culture, scholarship or industrial achievements in Louisiana. He can refuse emergency help (which he did) or involvement of French teams in relief work, but he cannot prevent France to give money to people in Louisiana.

The Cajun culture has had a long hard struggle from Le Grand Derangement in the mid-1700s (the first diaspora from Acadia in Nova Scotia) through the horrible "English Only" years in the early 20th century.

I'm happy to see the French people supporting the cause of their Cajun cousins.
