He agreed that the Bill Bennett statement was taken out of context. I was extremely disappointed in his view, and lost a ton of respect for him.

what i want to know is why are you surprised by this ? Larry Elder has always been a whore for the Republicans. always railing against affirmative action , welfare etc. spewing the same right wing lines.

and the excuse for Bill Bennett seems to be that he doesn't want every black baby aborted. yeah, we know that. it's what he said about how crime will go down if that was the case. which IS racist and offensive. but they think we should be happy that he is kind enough to not want every black baby aborted even if it meant crime would go down. some perverse thing.

3. Yah, Elder makes NO SENSE whatsoever...
He is just about the rhetorical tactic -- huff and puff and sound indignant regardless of the fact he is saying NOTHING that makes sense.

4. I am still wet behind the ears when it comes to politics.
I never knew he had a history of thinking this way. I must have been mistaking because, I thought I heard him speak from a more liberal point before.

6. well, maybe you are thinking libertarian and not liberal
libertarians and liberals agree on some things.

but he certainly is not liberal. he doesn't preach right wing religious moral things so that may have confused you into thinking he is not from the right.

but he mostly rails against liberals and "big govt programs" as most libertarians do.

2. Larry is an odd duck
He's too right wing for the liberals and moderates, too libertarian for the radical right.

7. It was

Doesn't make it any less racist to put forth an example of aborting black fetus's as a solution to reducing crime.

8. There is no defense for Bennett, no matter how you play it or parse it
He essentially said that aborting black babies would lower the crime rate...but ohhh, he notes in an aside, what a dreadful thing to say!

My first thought has to be this: If it was so dreadful, why say it at all? Hell, Mr. Book of Virtues should know that words have consequences!

And since he purports to be in vehement opposition to abortion, the only thing I can divine from his statement is that he, like George Bush, don't like black people.

He might as well have said something like: If all of the Muslim babies in the world were aborted, and oh, gee, not that "I" would ever support that, there would be less terrorism! Or: Gee, if all Dutch boys who have connections to Aruba are aborted, not that I support that sort of thing, no young girls from Alabama would go missing on holiday!!! Or--if all Mexican babies are aborted, we'd have no illegal immigration issues!

He's clearly targeting black people. I just cannot see it any other way....sick jerk!

10. Just think...
if we aborted all babies with silver spoons up there butt and huge trust funds, what a dreadful thing to say, we could eliminate the GOP. Oh, such a sweet dream :)

But I do agree with you, he is targeting black people. Probably didn't realize what he was saying until too late. He let his inner feeling slip out, ala Rush's "Mayor Nagen" comment.

11. Billy B.....
My God, what was that man THINKING? It made me wonder if he even bothers to listen to what comes out of his mouth! And then--as if that wasn't bad enough--he had to go try and 'explain' what he meant! How in the hell was THAT supposed to mean anything ELSE than what it did?

What an INCREDIBLY stupid man!

12. Elder IS a bit of a squirrel.
He often comes up with some of the damnedest stuff. Just when I think I'm beginning to figure out what page he's on, he comes up with something totaly unexpected and obtuse--like that Bennett stuff--and I realize that I don't understand him at ALL...

I just don't see how he possibly could think that what ol' BB said was some innocuous little fluff.

13. Why are you surprised?
Although Elders is black, he has always shown nothing but disdain for black people and is nothing but a shill for the Republicans.
