Wingers keep sucking foot: Blogger defends Bennet "slip of the tongue"

Bill Bennett's Slip of the Tongue

...

Yes, he mispoke. It's wince-inducing statement, something you know someone shouldn't have said. But while Media Matters righteously points out that Freakonomics did not make a "race-based argument," it does seem to me that poor unmarried teenagers having babies will, as a statistical matter, skew fairly black.

<Wrong!>

He shouldn't have said it -- no need to say "black," and "black" isn't the right word anyway; the theory talks about poor children born out of wedlock, some of which are black, but many of which aren't, and of course many black children aren't born poor or out of wedlock -- but one can hardly cry "racism" for making this inadvertant equivalency while speaking extemporaneously.

i bet that's wrong. probably will reflect the population, or the popoulation below a certain income level, pretty closely.

'up from conservativism'
there are 3 rightwing hoaxes that have been foisted upon the public: all three have been proven wrong repeatedly by numerous studies, but the gopigs still conveniently use them. they are
1) taxes are too high
b) public schools/education is a failure
3)poor girls have higher rates of illegitimacy then middle class or wealthy women.
i could post the refutations of these hoaxes using lind's data, but it seems i've done that at least 3 times since finding DU 4 years ago. simply put, taxes in the usa are consistent with every other western industrial country, indeed they are actually lower for upper income brackets. but tell this to freepers. they insist that the rich pay high taxes and thus deserve breaks etc. USA public schooling, at least until about 20 years ago, actually outperformed schools in many other western countries: since reagan, obviously, SOME public schools do worse, as they have been underfunded. And finally, statistics prove that poor women are no more prone to have kids out of wedlock then any other class of women, which is amazing when the levels of demoralization experienced by poor women are factored in.
people like bennett are not only crude ignoranmusus but they base their facts upon georgebushit...

4. Isn't that the best time to cry racism?
When someone makes an "inadvertant equivalency while speaking extemporaneously" doesn't that give a big clue as to how they really think? Bennett obviously thinks that crime is a 'black thing' rather than a poverty thing or any other sort of issue. He thinks "criminal" and "black" are synonymous = he's a racist.

5. no slip. Bennett was deliberate with his words.
I don't know what's worse, Bennett or those who attempt to stick up for him.

6. Somehow he missed
that Bennett was dismissing the Freakonomics argument. He didn't buy it. Yet amazingly, he conceded it would hold true in a specific hypothetical -- when you aborted black babies.

There was no "inadvertant equivalency" there. Bennett allowed a precise exceptional case for a theory he didn't believe.

7. "Slip of the tongue" = "mis-spoke"
Like Brownie "mis-spoke" about not knowing people were starving in a stifling convention center. So tiring.
