The DeLay support is really telling of the 'base'
These are the people who blindly support their leadership without even pausing to consider whether or not they could possibly be guilty. They organize support rallies within days of hearing about the news, and don't care one way or another if they have to eat their words later. In their minds, they are correct, and nothing you can chastise them over is going to change that. Nothing proven in a court of law could possibly break their iron will - after all, Jesus was sentenced to death while OJ lives on as a free man, right?

I've ranted on it many times in the past, but this kind of behavior is not only disturbing and closed-minded, it's dangerous. This is the kind of 'thought' that lead humanity into the Dark Ages, that lead to the rise of fascism and nazism, and that has plunged the US into the downward spiral that we're in. With their appeals to the 'common man' (citizen in being, peasant in thought), and their accompanying complete and utter neglect for the science and thinking that brought us out of the most troubling times in history, they're slowly reversing the flow of time.

This is much bigger than every little side-event like this, and yet that big picture looming in the background is almost never seen. And sadly, with all of the power of my mind, I cannot think of a reasonable way we can fight this tide. There is simply a wall there which I have not been able to break, despite my best efforts. I know these people, many of them as members of my family, and it pains me to no end that I cannot help open their eyes.

Is there any hope at all, or do we write them off as lost causes? I hate to admit that I even consider that possibility (for any person out there), but as every day goes by, it seems more and more inevitable.

3. Your correct...
...even if Delay were covicted of a felony in a court of law the faithful would STILL characterize it as a "technical" violation and insist the jury was rabid partisans...in short, totally insane...

5. That's been their goal all along........
to turn back the hands of time to a place that only exists in their minds. Progress was OK once, but it went on entirely too long. These people ARE dangerous and threaten to doom this country to a fate of stupidity and superstition. "A Handmaid's Tale" come to life, they'd SOOO love that!

7. Think of them not as people,
Edited on Fri Sep-30-05 05:18 PM by OldLeftieLawyer
but, rather, as individuals with gashes in their faces. They call them "mouths," but I think of them as entrances to cesspools.

Never write anyone off for any reason. No, they'll never think like you do, but you forever have to keep an eye on people like they are.

Barry Goldwater, who would die again if he saw what scum is trying to pass itself off as "conservative," said it best, in another, tragic context: "Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty."

Always keep them where you can see them. And never count them out.

9. Thanks,
What you say is very true, and regardless of the disturbing nature of it all, I think I'm slowly growing to accept it. =/
