2. You dignify them by calling them reactionary....they're hokey and trite...
self-pitying and smarmy. Also, they're pretty bad.

And I tend to like a lot of country-crossover. This tripe just doesn't cut it....

10. Sorry if I sounded critical of you....That wasn't my intention....
I don't think they're GOOD enough to call them reactionary. The lyrics are so gushy and trite, I find it hard to take them seriously.

5. When you slam country music...
... please remember Johnny Cash & Willie Nelson, what country music started as. What is coming out of Nashville right now is corporate redneck pop.

Have you heard Tim McGraw's "Drugs or Jesus"? It basically states in a small town you chose one or the other. Nice, uh? How about "Save a horse ride a cowboy" by Big & Rich? I seen little girls lip synch to this one. Family values my ass.

I am of course a fan the Cash family and Willie Nelson and there are some others too.

But Nashville is controlled by the "right wing neo-con/pro-death mafia" these days.

-sad.

6. That's just Gretchen Wilson trying to get a little mileage out of Merle
Back in the day, Merle Haggard wrote & recorded his famous "Okie from Muskogee", which was something of an anti-hippie right wing rant, so Wilson is trying catch a little of that. Of course, what she probably doesn't know is that ol' Hag, though still conservative, is the old fashioned kind (not like the Neo-Nazi Ford spokesman Toby Keith), and he's not too thrilled with Commander Bunnypants, either. Here's the lyrics to his song, "That's the News".

Suddenly it's over, the war is fin'lly done.
Soldiers in the desert sand, still clingin' to a gun.
No-one is the winner an' everyone must lose.
Suddenly the war is over: that's the news.

Suddenly celebrity is somethin' back in style.
Back to runnin' tabloid for a while.
Pain's almost everywhere, the whole world's got the blues.
Suddenly the war is over: that's the news.

That's the news, that's the news.
That's the ever-lovin', blessed, headline news.
Someone's missin;' in Modesto, an' it's sad about the clues.
Suddenly the war is over: that's the news.

Suddenly the cost of war is somethin' out of sight.
Lost a lotta heroes in the fight.
Politicians do all the talkin': soldiers pay the dues.
Suddenly the war is over, that's the news.

That's the news, that's the news.
That's the ever-lovin', blessed, headline news.
Politicians do all the talkin': soldiers pay the dues.
Suddenly the war is over, that's the news.

Oh, and it's doubly ironic, considering that Hag' has done duets with Keith.

8. I love this one: "Neo-Nazi Ford spokesman Toby Keith"
How true. Seeing that Henry Ford was Hitler's inspiration, it's understandable that they would hire a "Neo-Nazi" like Toby!

7. hard to say, really
if you read it subtly, you might read it as anti-republican. but their target audience really isn't into the whole "subtlety" thing. nor is it anti-republican. they might *say* they're for the "working man" but most of their audience sure as hell doesn't vote that way.
