Booze Brought On DeLay's Downfall

Tom DeLay is the latest in a long line of bigshots brought down by booze. Heavy drinking affects vital organs, especially the brain. Victims of booze-related dysfunctions are often unaware of how much cognitive damage has been inflicted.

Just look at that nose! This guy puts it away by the quart. That's probably why he believed his money-laundering scheme was foolproof. He's wrong, of course. Colleagues from both parties will be gentlemanly and let him keep his dignity, i.e., he won't go to prison. But his days as a politician are over. He's through.

With all those broken veins on his face he's starting to look like W.C. Fields. The rest of his behavior fits the pattern, too. He raises money prodigiously because he gets the fat cats drunk on their ass.

There are a lot of big time drunks in politics. Some of them hold it well; others make a fool of themselves. And some just overestimate themselves. DeLay's press conference was so alcoholic.
