I got a call from signing up with Pet finders to foster a pet. But
it was a local man trying to find help for a friend who was evicted from her trailer and has been living in her car with her dog.

She won't go to any shelters because she can't take her dog. A friend of hers looked on the petfinders website and got my name and number.

He is going to give her the information and, hopefully, she will give me a call.

I really hadn't thought about how much the people in local shelters would have these same problems.

He said her brother in Kansas said he would watch her dog but she didn't want her pet to be so far away.

Today, I started having this ominous feeling of dread about our economy, gas prices, natural gas/heating prices, health car costs, credit card payments, etc. and the squeeze the working and middle class (including my own family) are facing. I know these aren't new but they definitely feel like they are getting much worse.

The only other time I can remember having such an ominous, anxiety-ridden feeling for other people was the Saturday morning before Katrina hit. I'm not an instinct person - too much law school, fact-based reasoning hammered into my brain but I really feel it right now.

I hope she calls.

1. Oh it is a terrible problem for the poor. One bad month away from
eviction their whole lives and yes - the shelters often do not take pets.

Good for you - for helping out. You could make a rewarding full-time passtime out of taking in pets of people in crisis.

Good luck.

4. Trust me... it's not just the poor
We're all a lot closer to living in the car than what we might think if we're not in bush's protected tax bracket.

The *poor* used to be people without jobs on welfare-now the poor are people who work 40 plus hours.

Outside it's bushit's America

2. My friend I have had this feeling since 11 PM sept 7th 2000
I fell asleep listening to the coverage of the ass contesting his loss and woke after a horrible nightmare that everything had gone to hell in a handcart to find out he'd supposedly *won*

3. I know what you mean. I think this winter is going to be rough,
really rough. Especially since * and his congress slashed LIHEAP and other such aid.

I'm glad you're able to help out. Believe me, it's worth it. A stray found me not 30 minutes after I got back from the D.C. march. He is starved but happy to have found a temporary home. I wish I could keep him forever, but I'm single and already have three dogs.

Thank you for helping this woman and her friend.

6. I was just talking to my Mom in KC and she was telling me this terrible
story that is going on there right now.

A person from NOLA evacuated to KC with his pet. He couldn't keep his pet in the shelter. A woman said she would keep the dog but made him sign papers signing the dog over to her. He is now in an apartment or some place where he can have his dog. The woman REFUSES to give the dog back. She has become "attached" in a week or so. She has the papers and says it is her dog now.

I guess this is a big story going on down there and the terrible woman has had to change her phone number because I'm sure she is getting calls telling her what a monster she is.

How can a person be so cruel. Mind boggling. :wow:

I don't understand how people can do these things and live with themselves.
