Photographic Proof of Global Warming (1979 Ice Cap vs. 2005 Ice Cap)
On the left is a satellite image from 1979, on the right, one from Sep. 21, 2005.

How are the wingnuts going to explain this one away?

2. They always explain it away by saying that it's a natural cycle
and *not* the result of human activity.

I have no idea how they can extrapolate that to mean somehow that we shouldn't be adding to the problem (and there's nobody who can believe that it's not a "problem" at least in the sense that we're going to have to deal with it).

6. The implication in that statement being
that human beings are not part of the "natural cycle", 'cause GAWD made the earth for humans to exploit, don'ya'know.

4. Photos of, I think, Glacier Bay in Alaska
are even more terrifying. There are early photos by the explorers who "discovered" it in the 1800s, and then new photos, and it's enough to make you cry. I'll see if I can find them.

:(

23. This might be the one I remember of Muir Glacier, but I'm not sure
I think there's one that's even more dramatic...

in 1899

in 2003

I got the photos from

http://www.uwsp.edu/geo/faculty/ritter/geog101/textbook/climate_systems/climate_change.html

Really, really terrifying.

5. It's so horrible what has happened to our home
through global warming and people have the nerve to think it's a myth. *sigh* Even in the Bible the Lord tells us to look after our home because it's the only one we have. *Sigh*

7. They'll say it's a "normal fluctuation" and leave it at that
In fact, they'll say anything that sounds plausible. Because, they don't care. What they say and use are excuses, and none of this, up to and including planetary catastrophe, will stop them.

for one thing, they don't respect life, so there are no tears about the massive loss of wildlife

for another, they only respect the lives of Christians, and figure they've got all the advantages they need in strength of numbers, and screw the rest of the world. It's all about US

and finally, the wingnuts believe the world is going to end anyway

It doesn't matter what the proof is. Shrinking icecaps, melting icecaps, no icecaps. It doesn't matter what we say. Their only reaction will always be spin, because no matter how hard you hit them with the facts, they just don't care.

Likely they'd think caring would be a virtual violation of god BushCo's plan, and you can't have that, or you go to hell.

this stuff? I'm believing in my cynical heart that they like it. Seriously. Destroying stuff is...fun, and as they destroy the environment, they're "winning" the war on liberals and environmentalists. They rejoice in that picture. It means they're winning.

One who dies with the most toys wins

8. It doesnt show global warming but rather the end of the Cold War.
In 1979, the world was deeply involved in the Cold War. In the late eighties, the Soviet Union weakened and collapsed in the first years of the 1990's, thus "warming up" Eurasia. As the above illustrations show, the ice has retreated from the former Soviet Union, thus proof that it is a result of this "thawing" of the Cold War. This is a victory of the free world! Our next campaign? To crush the evil empire of Santa's North Pole!

16. I don't understand why that explanation is any less one of
human activity and something that needs to be addressed lest we make the earth uninhabitable to humans.

All of these issues need to be addressed.

14. They'll finally admit it exists but will dispute the cause. Heck,
the whole SOLAR SYSTEM is heating up, so I'm not sure anyone really understands the cause. Surely, cutting down trees and burning all kinds of fossil fuels ain't helpful, but there's prolly something bigger going on. Lots and lots of undersea volcanoes, and they ain't helping the ocean temps.

That's at least 25 percent gone, and the slowing North Atlantic cold water 'engine' is accellerating the process.
