I live on the East Coast, so I came home from classes today to find my son's work on the Front Page. Wha hoo!

I just called him. He's excited. Ever since he was a wee lad he's wanted to be a photojournalist. A faint memory. He did get a studio art degree from a major college and is a truly wonderful artist in many mediums (his oils rock!). But..... I think he's "coming home" to his heart with this work.

So, he says to a friend, "Maybe I should do this?"

His friend says, "You just now figuring that out?"

Duh. But you know how it is. You're always the last to know... sometimes.

I think he got great feedback!

near as good as his. So I can say without reservation that money for his degree was well spent.

You should be very proud, your son is a kick ass photographer!

Give him my thanks, he captured the march in a way I could not and for that I really appreciate his work.

This is DU Hall of Fame for sure, I'm gonna bug Skinner about putting it somewhere permanently.

Oh, I loooove Forum Snobbery. The idea that one forum is superior to another, based on what? Is GD the "serious" forum? Is the Lounge frivolous because people laugh?? Oh no! We mustn't display a SENSE OF HUMOR, lest we lose sight of our principles! :eyes:

GD is mostly tinfoil, flaming, and yelling - facts are in short supply in the discussions, opinions are often ill-informed - it's like combing through dung to get some diamonds in here. My condolences to the mods who have wade through the muck to allow good threads to flourish. I see nothing wrong with Melodybe trying to showcase the positive contributions of another member. We need more of that, and less condescension - since that attitude does NOTHING, contributes NOTHING, and does not even come close to "improving" DU. It sets it back, actually.

The Lounge shows that we are more than just the sum of our politics - that we have interests, knowledge, and a depth of information on an immense variety of subject matter - all beyond the narrow grim world of global intrigue and Washington DC screwjobs. It's the necessary pressure release valve we need to keep ourselves from a complete meltdown. It's a place for like-minded people to nourish their friendships and build trust and support.
