Just watched "The War Room"
It's a documentary about the '92 Clinton/Gore campaign. I was struck by two things:

1. Man, if the Al Gore who I saw campaigning in this film had shown up in 2000, things would be very different now.
2. The '92 Clinton campaign really resembles the '04 Dean campaign in several significant ways:

  • Lack of hierarchy.

  • Embracing new tactics, disdain for doing it the same old way.

  • Pugnaciousness. When I watched Carville talking about "why do we always have to respond? Why can't we go out and attack them for a change?" I couldn't help but think about how little that applies to most of the current candidates.

Now, if Dean can only sign up James Carville for the campaign....

1. The dems have much ammo. Will they use it?
Carville wouldn't hesitate.

I saw the documentary a year after it was made. I thought then that George Stephanopolus came off as a self-absorbed phony. My opinion of him hasn't changed much.
