TX evacuees brandishing guns on evac highways..
http://blogs.chron.com/rita/archives/2005/09/dead_vehicles_i.html

At least 600 buses and countless cars were parked along the shoulders and feeder roads of U.S. 59 in Lufkin, waiting hours for fuel on Friday morning, authorities said.

But on Friday morning, an unidentified woman from the area, heeding political leaders' calls for "good Samaritins," brought Glenn a can of gas.
<snip>

He said some irate motorists brandished guns and fired a few shots that didn't hit anything. Others got into fist fights, he said, as "the day got hotter and tempers got worse."

When someone had a medical problem, emergency workers had to find a way to travel against the flow of traffic, such as to reach a woman on a bus who ran out of oxygen, he said.

1. and how many will die beczuse this was so badly planned?
I mean faith based self evacuations don't work and didn't they promise us that they would be able to evac any major city on the drop of the hat, if a terra attack happened?

Ok, what they hell have they been doing for the last four years?

3. The Houston Zoo turkeys are safer than the evacuees...
Homeland Security can learn some lessons from the Zoo.

http://blogs.chron.com/rita/archives/2005/09/turkeys_in_the.html

Zoo spokesman Brian Hill said animals have been moved to secure areas -- turkeys were stashed in a women's restroom, anteaters in the Siberian tiger area -- and are ready and willing to ride out the storm.

"The thinking was that catching them, kenneling them and then shipping them out would be far more stressful, since we had a good, secure holding of them," Hill said.

15. You'd rather the NG and army go in and stipulate which
neighborhoods can evacuate at any given point?

Come in from the neighborhood not being evacuated, and an AK-47 gets pointed at you--with the options being to never shoot, and get ignored, or shoot?

Or perhaps just have mass transport evacuate everybody? You get on the bus and go wherever they're going to take you?

No good answer. Moving 2 million people and more is not trivial.

Terror attacks are federal responsibility from the get-go; Texas may be officially under federal responsibility, but they're just providing backup. The state plan's doing good enough.

Hardly a new law in texas.

In fact, in this mess, carrying a gun is just common sense.

9. Hey tell me what state you live in so I can
insult it and throw around insulting comments about it. It should be pretty easy to come up with something for just about every state.

Nah, nevermind. I wouldn't do that to you.

16. Prejudice?
Anybody who thinks they're not prejudice against something is indeed a hypocrite. I have a right my opinion - and yes I DESPISE TEXAS for the misery it inflicts on the rest of our country.

If Texas was sold, the house and senate would certainly be more liberal...and maybe even in the hands of Democrats. Better yet, we wouldn't have to deal with George Bush(dallas, austin), Tom Delay(houston), Karl Rove(austin), Dick Cheney(dallas), and scum like Joe Barton and the long list of similar psychopaths that Texans send to Washington. The culture of Texas is anti-anything not white, heterosexual, christian AND Texan. Don't get me started about the whole image of the loud bragging Texan, out visiting someplace bragging about how wonderful their cow pasture of a state is...or the 'native texan' or "welcome to texas, now go home!' or the "marriage is one man and one woman" bumper stickers.

As I said before, I know there are lots of good people who live in Texas....it's just that they are so outnumbered by total jerks.

17. You don't bother to learn much about some of the people you listed.
bush and cheney aren't even FROM Texas, they are fucking carpetbaggers. Actually cheney doesn't lie and say he's from here. He's from Wyoming. bush is from Connecticut and from a blue blooded northeastern aristocratic family. Nothin wrong with that, but damn, at least cop to it.

As to the rest of your post, nice hatred.

:eyes:

What do you think of Texas liberals? Are we worth your condescension and scorn?

My family has been in Texas since time out of mind and liberal as far back as I can tell (three generations at least).

So you'll excuse me if I roll my eyes a bit at your stereotypes and generalizations. It's a good thing I don't believe things like all New Yorkers are crass and rude and snotty. And all Californians are hippies or surfers or New Agey celebrities and stupid shit like that.

Geez.

Oh, wait...

Get over yourself. You're the one making hateful, xenophobic remarks. Quit projecting. And learn to use Spell Check before "Providense" pops out of your keyboard.

27. They LIE about being FROM a place.
That's called NOT LIKING LIARS, not being xenophobic.

God, get some reading comprehension skills for crying out loud.

He's a CARPETBAGGER--that means pretending to be from a place for political expediency. Has nothing to do with xenophobia or Texas.

28. None of us USED to be xenophobic.
Texas used to be a Democratic state. Most of the good people who have been here for years are Democrats.

The technology boom brought carpetbaggers from all over the country to live here because of the inexpensive cost of living and the warm climate.

Now they have stayed, and become ardent assholes. Kind of like you.

24. And Think How The "Lots Of Good People Who Live In Texas"....
...feel when they see a hateful rant like yours. Or any of the other such anti-Texas howls which turn up in DU with such depressing regularity.

Actually, don't think about it. Just go fuck yourself. That goes for anybody else who sees fit to mindlessly trash a whole state--- a state with hundreds of thousands of Democrats in it. "Prejudice" is the proper term.

I'd like to continue, but there's a hurricane about to pay us a visit. Got to run.....

19. What do you think would happen if LA had to evacuate?
Edited on Fri Sep-23-05 05:36 PM by rinsd
You think it would be calm and pristine?

We have freeway shootings without such calamity as a mass evac.

I'm not from Texas but this fuckup was possible in ANY major American city.
