Spinning troop deaths in Iraq
Was listening to NPR this am. One report, from Vermont Public Radio, had the Vermont National Guard Adjustant General announcing the death of a VNG soldier. This soldier died, she announced, after being shot by a sniper. The insurgents, she reported, had identified weak spots in body armor, waited for the right moment, and killed the soldier.

Not 30 minutes later, heard another report, this one from NPR, reporting on the same soldier's death, this time by small arms fire.

In the end, his death is a tragedy either way. But one story has our troops pitted against one sort of enemy, and the other story paints a picture of a different sort of enemy with different - far more random, in away - characteristics.

Maybe it's only me, but it struck me as just a bit too much spin.
