Feds seek records for Frist stock sales
By MarketWatch - Last Update: 10:03 AM ET Sept. 23, 2005

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Hospital firm HCA Inc. said Friday that the U.S. attorney in Manhattan had subpoenaed documents the company said are related to stock sales by Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist of Tennessee.

Earlier this week the senator announced that he and his immediate family had sold all the shares they owned in HCA (HCA: news, chart, profile) , which was founded by his family in the late 1960s.

Frist spokesman Bob Stevenson said Thursday that the senator had had no inside information about the company when he directed his trustees to sell the stock and that the senator "will provide the SEC any information that it needs with respect to this matter."

The majority leader had been criticized for continuing to own stock in the company while opposing medical-malpractice legislation, which could benefit the company financially.

8. *If* he did something illegal.
I know it is tempting to burn a repuke at the stake due to an allegation, but let's not stoop to their level and find someone guilty before he is even indicted.

Nah, just kidding. Of course he did something illegal! He's a repuke and a politician! If they can cluck cluck to Martha, then the same goes for them. Maybe rove did this to get him back for the stem cell thing!

15. Look deeper......
Why in the world would Frist sell hospital stock, even if he knew it was going to take a little dip??? Why wouldn't he just ride it out? After all, one would think medical industry stock would be a sure bet, regardless of ups & downs.

The family had owned it since the 1960's. Of course I love seeing him caught with his hand in the jar, but why would he risk it, unless he was anticipating serious market trouble up ahead?

This is scary to me.... I've been thinking for weeks that I ought to yank out my 401k savings before the winter fuel situation tanks the market.
