Help anyone hear that Aaron Broussard's heart wrenching

2. He just got the days mixed up.
That is the explanation I heard. Is it true?

3. My understanding is that the "debunking"
consisted of his having the day of the woman's death wrong. Like that changed the fact that so many were abandoned by the government for days on end while FEMA kept lying and saying help was coming.

4. All I heard was that the timeline was a little off.
The timeline for when the mother died or something. I can't remember what show I heard it on. It was earlier this week.

5. aaron broussard is never someone to put money on
if you do a search, you'll see i tried to post some warnings at the time abt consider the source

actually the story is not debunked, the woman died in st. rita's nursing home, but she died on aug. 29 & not on sept. 2 as broussard said in the story, i can put down a confusion of dates to being tired & going w.out sleep for hrs, so this is FAR far from the most serious way that broussard's credibility can be attacked

if you ever want to fall down a rabbit hole & never come back up alive, maybe even literally, go investigate kenner, louisiana politics sometime, but not in the media, go down on the ground, & bring money guns & lawyers if you expect to get out again

7. Interesting, pitohui.
Louisiana politics in general are fairly notorious. With Broussard, I kinda had the feeling that he really did care about what was happening to the people in the Parish, though. I heard him on WWL one night after things calmed down, telling people to "Come home. Forget about timetables, just come home."

Which does not mean he's not capable of being as crooked as many another politician. Just that I thought he had genuine feelings.

a bad man will still weep to see his home destroyed
not all bad men are sociopaths, they come in all varieties like the rest of us

i'm sure he does have genuine feelings, don't doubt it for a moment

6. some details but no link... I think Broussard mistook some points
Edited on Fri Sep-23-05 09:20 AM by hlthe2b
or perhaps embellished. It wasn't the mother calling the son( i.e., Broussard's emergency manager = EM), but the EM calling for help to evacuate them each day. She was out of communication after the hurricane hit or at least after the first rush of levee water, apparently and was in the St. Rita's nursing home where 30 people drowned in St. Bernard Parish, not in Jefferson Parish, where Broussard was located. The basics of the story are correct, but the details a bit embellished, either mistakenly or for emphasis.

9. Here's a fact:
RW talk shows are full of sh!t!

Their goal is to defend Bush by finding fault with anyone else involved. They are comparing apples and oranges and we are falling into the trap. Unless you live in Louisiana and were directly effected by Broussard...or Nagin and Blanco for that matter...you don't need to defend them. (Although I think all three did a very good job under the circumstances.) Bush is THE PRESIDENT (And I use that term loosely!) He is accountable to the citizens of the United States, to our safety and national security...period!

10. Timeline is off, but the nursing home owners ARE INDICTED.
The RW "debunking" has been debunked. Perhaps it is time to listen to a little less Reich Wing radio, timber84?

13. What I saw from that man during his interview was NOT bogus.
I've cried enough in my own lifetime, been around enough OTHER people in crisis to know what grief in another person looks like.

I also dislike more than I can articulate the rush to try to destroy Governor Blanco and Mayor Nagin. I'm so looking forward to the days when American professional character assassins will have to confront the empty, idiotic results of their life endeavors.

THIS is how they've chosen to spend their lives: trying to destroy other people through gossip, rumor, accusation.
