one renders by scraping fingernails across a chalkboard. I absolutely cannot bear her voice.

22. Oh Jen!
The funny thing is that before I came to the computer, I was doing my own Rita Cosby impression and my daughter told me Rita from MSNBC sounds like a muppet on too much testosterone.

She's in the second grade, by the way.

P.S. We all need a laugh sometimes! I've spent all day trying to convince relatives to evacuate to Dallas :( I hate stubborn relatives.

Now that voice is echoing through my brain, rasping "Hurricane Rita" over and over again. And it is ALL YOUR FAULT!

BTW I have a sister named Rita. Appropriately, she is a die hard Bush supporter and neocon apologist. I think she was the first female judge in the history of the state of Utah, and quite liberal until she married this ex-pilot VP of GTE Sylvania. Bob. A nice guy for a right wing nut case.

How did this woman ever get a job in radio, even?

With a voice like that? Seriously? Who the hell originally thought this woman would be pleasing to the ear, let alone eye? I mean, how airbrushed is her promo photo on MSNBC?

I can't even take her seriously because, well, I have a voice thing. I'm stupid like that. But how could anyone listen to her even for five minute without busting into laughter?

She just kills me. "Hurricane Rita!!"

Sorry, Traveler. ;-)

Sorry about your neocon apologist sis, too. She might come around. They're starting to, you know.

My Rita would stand on the deck of the Titanic as the icy waves lapped at her ankles and swear the ship was unsinkable still.

And while I understand that, really, it is Rita Cosby's fault ... IT WAS YOU that caused me to hear that "fingernail on the chalkboard voice" in my head repeating over and over again that fatal phrase

"Hurricane Rita"
"Hurricane Rita"
"Hurricane Rita"

Dammit, Jen. You owe me a drink for this! Irish Whiskey, preferably Jameson's, 12 year.

Got Sirius, because of Randi. Seriously. OK, and Stern. And, ok, because of the NFL.

Then, AAR moves to XM. Feh.

Finally, Randi gets picked up by the local AAR affiliate... only they choose to air Ed Schultz in her timeslot, and they shifted Randi to the 6:00 pm time-delay slot.

I'm well-esconced in the tending of bar at 6:00 pm. Haven't heard her in months. :-(

25. Oh, please. She's really fun during times like this... and useful.
During the first few days of Katrina, Rita Cosby was down in Aruba, standing on a windswept beach, saying stuff like, "Gosh, it sounds really awful at the Convention Center!" to the likes of Joe Scarborough.

This woman made me respect Joe Scarborough (don't worry, it's a temporary affection). He always looked like he was about to bust up laughing when she'd cut to him. That voice.

I can't turn away... she just cracks me up too much. And a little humor feels damned good these days.

probably b/c it's so out of place. (I also like Diane Rehm, and plenty of people whine about her voice as well ) I sometimes don't mind the show either.

Part of my enjoyment with Rita Cosby is based on the parallel narrative I have running in my head of Saturday Night Live spoofing the show I'm watching. :)

44. If everyone was
not so busy trying to cover up their bias, appearing to be politically correct, etc. they would be talking about the fact that she weighs more than Kate Moss. That is the real issue and any female who buys into the discussion about superfluous issues and does not realize that weight (appearance)is the underlying issue is just not thinkin'.

I'm bored now - this is the 21st century and everyone needs to grow up.

I was talking about the woman's voice.

From Rita Cosby's voice to Kate Moss to weight issues? A stretch.

A real stretch.

I guess I'm just not thinkin', though. Apparently, you feel there's some "discussion" in this thread about superfluous issues with weight as the underlying issue.

Put words in anyone's mouth, much?

So, your definition of grown-ups includes those who refuse to make fun of a newscaster's voice?

What in the...?

59. Reminds me of the godfather's raspy voice.
I do a pretty decent impression of her when I accidentaly flip by that channel.

I watched her show for about 10 minutes once after Katrina hit
In addition to her voice, her melodramatic presentation annoyed the hell out of me. Also, the amateurish way she conducted interviews...I felt she was in way over her head.

How anyone could watch her show nightly is beyond me.

69. Man's voice??
When my husband heard her voice, he said, "She hasn't always been a woman." He swears she has had a sex change.

I don't want to start a rumor but that is what he said and it is sooo out of character for him to say this as he is usually the most unobservant person in the world.

71. She's just dumb.
I have no objection to the way she looks, in fact it's a positive thing that a woman with a few extra pounds is on television in my mind. But it's the sound of her voice and then the dumb things that she says that make me run and leap and change the channel ASAP every single time she appears. By the way, MSNBC's new way to promote her appears to be to put her on every single one of their programs. Every 15 minutes it's "Rita Cosby reporting LIVE and Direct from. . . . Great, they ignore Olbermann and push this tabloid 'ho.

We must all be crazy!

She is awful, just awful.

Give us some class like Christiana A. at CNN.
