Brace yourself citizens of Canada. The country’s top banker, David Dodge, said on Thursday this year’s historic hurricane season in the southern United States means we could all soon be paying more for everything, not just gasoline.
Speaking to reporters after a speech in Toronto, the Governor of the Bank of Canada said he can’t say for sure, but it's possible high energy prices will trickle down and cause the price of other goods and services to go up.
“It is our expectation” Dodge said “that following Katrina, and probably following Rita, we will have to wait and see, that headline inflation is going to go well above 3 per cent in the coming months.” That would push inflation outside the bank’s stated comfort zone.
