Saw a bumper sticker that said DARWIN inside the fish symbol --
the one made with two lines making two intersections. The fish had little legs. I can only describe this and want to know where I can get one.

Maybe some can find a graphic for me and tell me what organization would make a bumper sticker like that.

12. The Democratic Underground is BETTER than Google -- Thanks to all!
Edited on Thu Sep-22-05 08:17 PM by Radio_Lady
It's the equivalent of all the knowledge of all the people who are seeing the message -- plus all the FEELINGS of all those people, something that Google will never have.

When talk radio was in its infancy, I worked for Barry Gray at WMCA. I took over Larry King's show in Miami and blasted 50,000 watts from WIOD in the middle of the night (11PM to 5AM). Then I became a radio talk show host myself in Boston, and stayed in broadcasting off and on for 35 years. We all learned a lot from each other. People laughed and cried, talked and taught, and thought. When people fought on the air, we broke for music. There was anger, but there was peacefulness, too. We helped each other, too -- I did one of the first on-air dating shows. Called it Date-A-Mate; people called in and described themselves and others called off the air for their telephone numbers. There were no personal ads in the newspapers in those years. It all seems so quaint now.

I love this new quality of the Internet town square. Although I am not religious, I see this quote from Jesus in purely an intellectual way:

Ask, and it shall be given you;
seek, and you shall find;
knock, and it shall be opened to you.
For whoever asks, receives;
and he who seeks, finds;
and to him who knocks, the door is opened.

Matthew 7.7.8 - jesus of nazareth

Now another question...how does one start a thread? I'm still a newbie and probably not allowed yet, but wondered how to do it...when I can.

loose to post a topic by yourself. It's kind of like learning to ride a bike -- remember Mom or Dad holding you up and running along side -- until you got the idea?

The administrators won't disclose the number of posted responses required, but keep on truckin' and you'll make it.

Welcome!

31. Oh, yeah, I can come up with all kinds of scenarios
for getting around detection, etc. I flew for the first time in 5 years this Spring and in about five minutes figured out a way to get a steak knife on a plane. My friends in the navy were discussing the possibility of shooting down a civilian aircraft that had been highjacked way back in the mid eighties.

32. You're in Florida? I lived in Dade County for 28 years!
I've been watching the hurricane coverage and just can't take it any more. Tonight, I actually feel guilty (that I escaped it by moving to Boston in 1972) and also grateful (that the guy I married in Boston hated the snow and so we moved to Oregon in 1998.)

I am so sorry for Texas tonight -- we were down in Houston and San Antonio last year, and got lost on those freeways a couple of times. A long time ago, we went to Galveston Island and visited the Hotel Galvez.

I can't imagine what they are going through trying to escape the coming storm.

In peace,

Radio Lady

9. Get ready for unbelievably nasty notes from "Christians"
Edited on Thu Sep-22-05 08:06 PM by Lex
Believe me--I read one of those notes that a friend of mine got because she had that Darwin/fish symbol on her car.

It was the most vile thing I've ever read and of course all in the name of Jesus. The nutbucket tucked it under her windshield wiper.

11. And now you know why the fish symbol by itself
that used to mean "Christian" is becoming a creationist symbol.

Wait til you see the Christian fish symbol with the word truth in it, eating a Darwin fish.

Me, I am both a Christian and an Evolutionist. So why couldn't God have used evolution to create, I wanna know. The creation story is a metaphor, dadburn it!

I'm a Christian (albeit an unconventional one) and I believe in both evolution and creation. Evolution was/is part of God's plan.

I see the fish and the Darwin around here all over. What I'd really like to have is one that has the Christian-fish and the Darwin-fish shaking hands (or fins?). I think most rational Christians believe this way.

14. I had one on the tailgate of my truck
It was a little bigger than the standard jesus fish. Inside the fish was the word "Dinner". I liked it a lot, got laughs from folks and had it on there for a few months before someone snatched it off - angrily I suppose. Glad you mentioned it. I'm going to order another one.

36. I just learned a couple of months ago that XTIAN was not a Chinese word.
It's short for Christian -- I didn't know that! Another movie reviewer here in Portland used the term in her blog and I asked her what it meant.

Maybe it's because I was born Jewish and now I'm a Jew-NITARIAN! (I go to the Unitarian fellowship but have never officially joined.)

We need a label, too.

.. http://www.rof.com/ and my (fish)n'Chips should arrive on Monday.

I can't wait to poke some fun at the fundies.

Before I ordered mine, I asked a pastor friend if I'd go to Hell for getting one, and he said i'll be OK. He's a UMC pastor who are a little more progressive, but I needed to get the OK from him first.

Edited on Thu Sep-22-05 10:02 PM by Behind the Aegis
It is in a Hebrew looking font.

What is "Gefilte fish?" It is a Jewish food.

An actual recipe (the above link is a story).

An actual definition: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gefilte_fish

37. Oh, that's great. I love to eat "gefilte" fish, but have never made it.
"Mother's" brand is excellent, but probably too salty for my diet.

Thanks for your post. As a Jewish girl growing up in a Christian community in the 1950s in Miami, we had to lots of explaining about our foods, holidays, etc. I think there were only about ten Jewish kids in my large high school graduating class in 1956. We're planning our reunion for next year -- October or November -- in Orlando, Florida.
