Type Clinton into the National Enquirer's search engine....
...on their website. Scroll down after the first search results and hit the search button one more time next to advanced search. These aren't the whole stories but summaries.

I am not saying Bush isn't drinking. I think he is doing that and more.

But for people to DEFEND NE's journalistic intergrity is just killing me.

You may want to look at the results of typing Clinton into their search engine. Lots of nasty BS stories about Chelsea, Hillary and Bill.

But since they are all fact checked and the NE worries about lawsuits...it must be true...right?

1. It's not so much that the story might really be true --
Edited on Thu Sep-22-05 07:51 PM by ocelot
it's that a lot of people of the freepish persuasion believe damn near everything the NE publishes. SInce Bush is a public figure, he couldn't sue them successfully for defamation unless he could prove actual malice, so I doubt they're too worried about a lawsuit. (If NE publishes statements claiming Bush is hitting the sauce only on the basis of thinly-attributed hearsay, they're merely negligent, and Bush would lose the case.) But the fact that NE published this story will freak out the freeps, and it also suggests that Bush is no longer immune from such things -- the teflon is peeling off.

2. I understand your point.....
That wasn't the problem.

I just don't think the NE is a legit source for anything.

10. If that were so.....
...and Bush was so craven he would set up something to kill and intimidate why would NE or AMI be concerned with getting the facts straight. I would think they would avoid the story altogether if they feared such. Assuming (and that's a big one) Bush was behind the anthrax the purpose would be to cow the NE, not retaliation for getting facts wrong.

9. And do you believe everything that the NY Times tells you ~

I don't.

We have been lied to by Congress, MSM and certainly by the corporate run newspapers of this nation.

One thing that fascinates me about us liberals, we are so afraid that something said about a Republican will get picked apart and found by the ROVE THUGS to be not true.

RETHUGS refuse to apologize and tell LIES, KNOWN LIES, and they keep on doing the Swift Boat Polka until the nation dances to their tune.

So what if the Enquirer is telling a LIE? So damn what?!

I am thrilled that this story came out when it did, hit um while they are down.

Hurricane Enquirer, if we are lucky, will be a Category 5

11. Two points....
Point one is that people were making the NE out to have journalistic integrity. In a story we want to believe that is alot easier. But the claims that this must be true because otheriwse they would be sued, they fact check etc. Well if they do all of that does that make the Clinton BS true?

Point two is part of what I am about is that I refuse to become a rwer with different policy goals. I will not lie. I will not claim NE is a good source.

6. No sweat....
It's one thing to read what you want to hear and give the source cred. See any thread on CHB. It's quite another to hear things that make you sick from the same source.

But the poster above has a good point. Irregardless this is read more in the MidWest/Bush country and could have a possible effect.

At the same time, as you stated "I will not be recommending this story to my friends" or sending e-mails or whatever.

The NE is trash and makes money off trashing people...quite a few of them which are decent.

8. Corporate media used tabloids during the Clinton/Monica fiasco
I wouldn't be surprised if bush is drinking. He's got a history.

But keep in mind, tabloids use the headlines of the outrageous to make a few bucks. They will do it off the misery and the greed of others. They pay their sources.

Take it how anyone wants, but that's how I keep it in perspective.
