CA VOTERS: If you received your absentee ballot late, FAX IT IN
Edited on Mon Oct-06-03 11:24 PM by lebkuchen
Go to www.lavote.net

Go to "absentee voter" and look for the link that takes you to "special overseas absent voter signature form and oath."

Download that form, fill it out, get your official sample ballot, mark NO on recall/YES on Bustamonte (preferably). FAX the pages on which you voted, plus your oath form, and a cover letter attn: absent voter. FAX it to 562 462 3035.

1. One quesiton
How are they going to make sure that people don't vote twice or that the person indeed faxing it is the voter in question.

2. They'll likely be matching up the information asked on the form
with what they have in their records to send you the absentee ballot in the first place, DOB, home phone, mailing address, signature...

And, you need to have your official ballot. The ballots aren't all the same. Mine is LA county.

17. If you are going to a polling place and have an absentee
ballot, then you have to bring it with you.

6. Yes, if you live in CA.
Lots of military folk who got theirs late and can't be there. FAXing would be the only option, in that case.

it must be postmarked no later than 7:00 Tuesday nite. At least she's being a true repub and voting for McClintock. I can respect that.

9. WRONG on the mail postmark, which is why I post this FAX message
Edited on Tue Oct-07-03 12:00 AM by lebkuchen
Postmarks on the ballot don't matter. The ballot MUST ARRIVE by 8:00 PM on voting day.

PS Since she's voting YES, you may not want to pass this message on to her.

10. Faxing is only an option for people overseas.....
.....according to the California Secretary of State web site Absentee Voting page.

One consequence of the compressed schedule for preparing for the upcoming October 7th Statewide Special Election is the possible disenfranchisement of overseas military voters, their overseas spouses and dependents, and other registered voters temporarily residing abroad. Under normal circumstances, many of these voters have a difficult time obtaining, voting, and returning their ballots in time to be counted. For this election, the increased number of men and women serving in Iraq, Afganistan, and elsewhere compounds this difficulty.

Therefore, in order to ensure that the recall election is conducted as required by the California Constitution and that the absentee ballot provisions are "liberally construed" in favor of the absent voter as required by Elections Code section 3000, voted absentee ballots may be returned by FAX for the October 7, 2003, statewide special election, subject to the following procedures:

* The voter must be a "special absentee voter" as defined in Elections Code sections 300 (b), who is overseas.
* The voter is informed of and agrees to waive his or her right to a secret ballot.
* The ballot is received by the elections official not later than the close of the polls on Election Day.
* The elections official shall adopt appropriate procedures to protect the secrecy of the voted absentee ballots returned by FAX.
* The information received from the voter includes that which is required by Elections Code section 3011, including a declaration, signed by the voter under penalty of perjury, the signature of the voter, the date of signing, and the other required warnings and statements.
* The voter's eligibility to vote can be determined through comparison of the signature on the return information file with the signature on his or her affidavit of registration.
* The ballot is duplicated and all materials are preserved according to procedures set forth in the Elections Code.

11. ATTN: OVERSEAS VOTERS--Don't forget the international area code for US 001
001 562 462 3035

The CA Voter Registrar's Office forgot to give me the international area code for the US. It's 001, and you'll likely need that in front of the CA area code and number.
